Hornady Z-Max in .243
Im curious if anyone has tried the 58 grain Z-Max bullets in there 243. I know the bullet is relatively new but thought someone might have tried them.

Prob won't get an answer from anyone on this forum that's actually used them...but to my understanding, they're simply a V-max with a fluorescent green tip. Purely a marketing gimmick to sell bullets to the "Zombie" killers that think "the end is nigh"

If you look at the Z-Max line of bullets on the Hornady website & compare to the V-Max line of bullets, each weight of Z-max lines up to a bullet of the same weight in the V-Max line with the exception of the 7.62 123gr Z-Max which I'm sure they introduced to keep the SKS shooters happy.

The .310 cal I think is the 123 gr SST with the pretty tip.

Good observation LWD, you are more than likely correct. I see that the listed price is quite a bit cheaper than their V-Max & SST counterparts...might be worth buying a box of 500 to dust some varmints as Hornady boasts (and I quote, as I would never use zombie varmints in a sentance) "Explosive Hornady performance to vaporize zombie varmints" @ $90/500 for 50gr .224 bullets they just may be the ticket for this summers dog town shoots!!

I agree with the price that is the main reason for my post. Thanks for the replies gentleman. I will more than likely have 500 headed my way soon.

Jason,
If you have some Varget in stock give it a try with the super light bullets in your 243. It works well for me with Hornadys and Noslers.

Thanks Butch
I shot some Hornady Custom 58 grain moly v-max today and they shot around an 1-1.25". So I sorta have a starting point maybe. I have some RL15 and some Varget as well so when I get a chance to buy some bullets I'll begin the load process I suppose.

When I bought my .243Win recently I picked up a few boxes of different factory ammo to shoot through it. One of them was the 58gr Vmax Superformace ammo. It shot well through my Rem 700. I haven't seen any of the zombie stuff for sale in any of the gun shops that I frequent. I have loaded the Vmax bullets in a few other rifles and they are accurate. I also like the fact that they are cheap.
