Barnes Data for 257 Roberts
For those of you who are loyal shooters of the 257 Roberts take a look at the load data provided by Barnes Bullet company. Barnes takes the Bob to the SAAMI max pressure of 52,000 psi. Also realize these loads were developed using the Barnes all copper bullets which are harder than a jacketed bullet and should develop higher chamber pressures. I have shot 50 grains of RL 19 under a 100 grain Remington Core Lokt and 100 grain Nosler Partition with no problems what so ever. Velocity is 3,250 fps.

Also just worked my way up to 50 grain of H4831SC under a Hornady 117 SST with no problems. Velocity is 3,000 fps. Pretty impressive. I think the
25-06 Rem. is in serious trouble.

Try these loads in a modern 257 and prepare to see your rifle velocity increase dramatically.

Bob was underloaded from day one. Been getting 3k+ with 115-120 gr bullets for a long time, so have many others. I prefer the Reloader series for the cartridge, especially #15 for the varmint weight bullets. 3500 fps with a VMAX 75 is no big deal...unless you're a PD.

What vintage rifle is considered "modern"? I have a Remington 722 which, if I recall, was last chambered in .257 in 1960.

The 721s and 722s can take modern pressures with no difficulty.

I apologize for the mis print on the 257 Roberts +P data. It should be 58,000 psi for the SAAMI standard. Not 52,000 psi as I had originally posted.

Digital Dan and 7-30 Waters:

What barrel length are you getting those velocities with?

Thanks,

Jordan
