GoWyoShort Bbled rifles and loads
Hi all, I recently received a 30-06 carbine and a 722 remington 257 Rbrts with a bulge in the end of the barrel. I might lose 2.5- 3" off the factory barrel on the .257 when I have it cut down and recrowned. Does anyone on AR boards have loads worked up for these calibers in shorter tubes? I would think that a faster burning powder would be the ticket.
Thanks,
Gary

scotThe 722 will end up as a 23" barrel, give or take. That is not a "short" barrel by modern standards. Ignore it for powder selection purposes. Your fastest load will probably be a case full of H-4831. A couple of inches of barrel won't change that.
Same goes for the '06. Fast powders will not be the best. Use the normal range of powders suggested.
If you had a 10" barrel it might be a different story.
