Berger 40 grain varmint bullets in .223
I recently picked up some of these bullets and thought that I would try them out to see how they compared to Nosler BT's in the same weight. I was told that the J4 jacket is fragile in the varmint mode. Since I'm pushing these out at 3925 fps I was wondering about accruacy and the bullets holding together. I was told that some of them might come apart in flight at that velocity. Any experience with these?

I know that Berger is pretty good about answering questions on their product. I'd drop them a line. <wberger@bergerbullets.com>

Jay has a very good suggestion there.

Also, try them on a big clean sheet of paper, up close, 50yds, and 100yds. IF there's any spray, these will show it. Use a clean sheet big enough to catch everything, say 3-4' square.

That's how I learned what was happening with cast bullets in my 06 many yrs ago.

Mighty fine bullets, but, there's a limit to everything I've heard.

Thanks Jay Johnson, I followed your advice and emailed Berger and received the following response, "To my knowledge I have not heard of any one blowing them up. I have shot the 30 grain with a 1-14 twist at 4328. If you have a quick twist (1-7) it might be possible to blow them up but I question if you can get enough velocity from a 223 to do it. If you should blow them up I would like to hear about it. Thanks for the interest and have a great day."

Well that's great and Berger seems to know what customer service is.
