New Tactical .20's done, look out Canis latrans
I have a Rem Varmint Synthetic that started life as a .223. Unfortunately the chamber was not on axis with the bore and fired cases were .002 out of round at the case mouth, shot well cold but went to hell when it heated up. Answer?--Send it to Pac-Nor to become a Tactical .20. Install 26inch 3 groove barrel, have the bolt bushed to .062 by Greg Tannel of Gre-Tan rifles, Sako extractor intsalled also by Greg, Kepplinger single set trigger installed (2lbs unset, 3oz set) same old Leupold 6X20 ---results? 33grain V Max's chrono 4,250ish and 5 shot 100 yard groups are in the .2's and .3's (no Bull). What a gas!!! Final result,s? I guess till spring when the p-dog's, chuck's and, gopher's wake up Canis latrans had better look out. Shoots flat as a string and you can see the hits, a lot like a hot .17 only more poop. Wish it was spring.---Shoot Safe---montdoug

Dang Doug!

Now it's gonna be a long, long winter waiting for Spring .... [Roll Eyes]

I have some similar projects that I've been trying to talk myself into over time but it seems they always get pushed aside for whatever comes up.

One of my favorite "not started yet" projects involves a .17 Rem barrel from Pac-Nor going on a Savage 223 I'm using as a doorstop. Haven't bought the barrel yet.

Hmm. Ponderponderfidgetfidgetfidget - see whatcha did?!

Cheers!

Doug-sounds like a great set up--too bad we can't put it to work on Canis Lupis........

Redial-for what it is worth I'd opt for a 20 instead of the 17-I am on my second and most likely last 17 tube. My main complaint, and it is sort of a weak one but- I hate to try and hold those little bullets to get them seated. Weak I know, but it does honk me off. I have a Shilen/17 on my 700 now if it didn't shot so well I'd be off to 20 land.

Doug I work at Bob Wards stop in some time and show me your 20.

Yotes are gonna be worht a bit of money this winter I hear-good news and bad news I guess.

Check out the 19/223 on the www.Jamescalhoon.com site. Some interesting reading about the 19 vs 20 cal. I can see one in my future.

Mountdog, that sounds like a very nice rig. Mark, I have exactly the same silly complaint about the seventeen. Not a very good excuse, I know, but that's how I feel. Problem is, I still find myself hankering for one. There are just too many rifle and caliber choices out there, aren't there? I want em all!!

Snapper -- I read that article a couple years ago
prior to getting the Tactical 20. Why the 20 over
the 19? Where is one to get the .19's if Mr.
Calhoon goes out of business? (Actually, I'd like
to have BOTH!!)
