300winnieWhat is powder everyone using in the .204 Ruger with 32 grain bullets?
I have a friend who is new to the .204 Ruger and bought some TAC and H335 to start with. Results haven't been devastating, but certainly not real exciting either.
He is shooting a Howa extreme varminter. Both of us think that the gun should be capable of some really good groups if the right combination is found.
Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

pdhntr1IMR 4895 and Remington BR primers. I don't use rem primers in anything else, but they sure helped with my 204.

Chuck WhiteI load 204 Ruger ammo as follows:
Bullet: 32gr Hornady V-Max
Powder: IMR 4198 23.0gr
Primer: CCI 450
Case: Hornady
This load in my 26 inch Encore will go into .33 inches.
With this combo I get 4125fps @ 20ft.

montdougMy best luck has been with RL 10X with both the 32's as well as my rifles "favorite" bullet the 39 grain Sierra BlitzKing.

groundhog devastationTry Accurate 2230 from 28.0-28.8 grains with the 32 grain bullets(either Sierra or Hornady) gives great velocities and superb accurracy. For the 39 grain Sierras, try 27.5 grains of Accurate 2520. GHD

SilverfoxI am a
BIG fan of H4895 powder in my Savage 12VLP in .204 Ruger for just about every bullet I shoot in it. That includes the 32 gr. V-Max, 32 gr. Sierra BK, 35 gr. FBHP Berger, 39 gr. Sierra BlitzKing and 40 gr. Nosler BT.
Here's a test target shot at 100 yards using Benchmark and the 32 gr. Sierras. The 32 gr. Sierras had a tendency to tumble on me, so I quit using them.
Here's a target shot at 100 yards using Benchmark and the 32 gr. Sierra bullets.
And another target with 32 gr. Sierras and Benchmark, but only 3 shots. I quit shooting so I wouldn't ruin the group size!!

A 39 gr. Sierra target shot at 100 yards:
Reloader 10X was working good in my early testing with the 39 gr. Sierras, but the next lot of powder I purchased was WAAAAAY slower burning and I opted to switch to H4895 instead mess with such a difference in burn rate.
And a target shot at 100 yards using the 35 gr. FBHP Bergers. I had shot several shots at 25 yards prior to this getting my scope on the paper. After those shots, the first shot at 100 yards was a tad bit low and to the right. As the targets shows, I adjusted the scope up three clicks and to the left three clicks and shot a 3-shot group. I figured that was good enough for minute of coyote accuracy!!!

adam330I have had good luck with H4895, shooting sub 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I am loading 27.2 grains of powder into winchester brass with CCI 450 primers shooting a 32 gr. V-max. I had previously tried a little hotter with poor resluts.

Silverfox Bill Mc-- Sorry I haven't posted an answer sooner, but I haven't been visiting the Web sites very often lately.
Anyway, My .204 Ruger is a Savage 12VLP and the twist rate in this factory tube is 1 in 12".
