Hornady no longer makes this bullet but I'm trying to find out the "item number" or SKU.
If there's anyone out there that has a box and would check and share the number, I would appreciate it.
My Krag does not reliably feed the spire point 140gn bullets. It feeds the 156 and 160gn stuff but the new barrel is a 1/9 twist and doesn't shoot them very well.
Friend might have a source but they wanted the Hornady item number.

A couple of months ago a gent I met at range we shoot invited me to go thru a couple of containers of gun parts and gun stuff a very elderly gent gave him shortly before he died.

One of the things I will buy from him was a box of Hornady 160 grain 6.5 round nose bullets. Price on the box was $5.50 and the store it was bought ceased to exist 10 years or so ago.

End of box has no Item number or SKU, just
6.5mm cal 160 gr .264 round nose. On bottom of box in area titled Lot Number, has 9 RN 4863.

Hornaday's SKU # for their .264" 160 gr. RN's is 2640.

I can easily undertand Hornady's decision - all the young studs I load for desire either 120 & 140 grainers in their 260 Remington's or 6.5x55 Swedes.

One older experienced fellow though always wants the Hornady 160 R.N.'s for his 6.5x57R Drilling. I can only say the penetration delivered is simply superior. We just giggle with glee when he tells me of his exploits with them.

I've always got an eye out for them as the logistics back-log to Europe occaisionally offers a box or two sitting around gathering dust on a Dealer's shelves.

Sadly, there will be no more .....

I have a box sitting here. Is it the number inside the H on the bottom of the box? There is no other numbers but the 140 roundnose on the end. 10 8270 is all there is.
I have several boxes of 129 roundnose, have you tried those?

Back40, thanks for looking. Maybe they stopped making the 140RN before they put item numbers on the boxes--don't know. I've got boxes of 129SP #2620/140SP #2630/160RN #2640. I was not aware of any 129gn RN only the SP's.
Hoffmanite and Gerry, I agree about the 160's but price/availability got involved with the new barrel and I did not get fast enough twist to stabilize those bullets. They work very well at moderate velocities.
Gerry, the 160RN are still on Hornady's website. MidwayUSA shows them as "out-of-stock" but "backorder OK". Perhaps no one is importing them anymore but it appears they are still around. Can you get the Norma 156gn bullets. That was my standard loaded ammunition back in the 70's and 80's.

A 140 RN Hornady? My Hornady manuals go back to 1973 and no such bullet is listed. My 1972 issue of Handloader's Digest does list them. So they've been gone 40 years....no wonder they are hard to find.

My Hornady manual is number II. It shows the 140gn RN but I didn't realize how long I've been using it (the date is 1973). It was an update from my 50's vintage Lyman and Belding&Mull books.

They closed out the 140 RNs and 160 RNs at a local gunshop about the time Hornady went to the Interlock design. Apparently the bullets were grossly unpopular in this area back then. I am guessing that was 20 or 25 years ago. Anyway I got all they had - 5 boxes of each weight for $3 a box. I still have all of them. None are the Interlock design.

Load up some 155 Lapua Megas. They worked fine in my 1/9" CZ.
