243 WSSM
Has anyone heard what the velocity is supposed to be with this new cartridge? If it gets to the 240 Weatherby or 6mm-06 stage I may be interested. Of course the new rifles will probably take a long time to become available.

I heard what the velocity is supposed to be 200FPS faster than 243.

Bob,

The little bit of information I have is that the case capacity is about the same as the 243 Winchester.

So one would expect to the 223 WSSM to get about 200 f/s over the 22/250 but of course the 243 WSSM would fall short of the 6mm/06.

In the WSSM's so far I've heard the .223 will be hanging right in there with the 220 Swift and the .243 will be capable of 3300fps with a 100 bullet. I also heard the and don't know if it's true but,.243 WSSM's have burnt out barrels using light varmint type bullets at around 500 rounds! [Eek!]

It strikes me that the WSM and WSSM legitimize the PPC and BR concepts of the short fat case combined with the powder column alligned in a fashion to produce even combustion. I like the idea however the .22 WSSM has no real advantage if the .22 BR was factory loaded. To me the 22 and 243 WSSM should have been built on the WSM case and loaded with long heavy high sectional density bullets.

Unfortunatly we won't be able to use it for hunting in Alberta as law says empty cartridge case length must be 1.75 inches in length.
