fredj338anyone using a 6.5x.284 on a M700 SA?
Are you happy w/ the round? I am thinking of rebarreling my M700 SA. What kind of performance are you getting?

smallfryYeah... 284 based wildcats have gone through the roof in popularity recently... so much so that you will find that many people on these threads own more 284 based wildcats than they ever knew they owned. Moreover they have been owning them longer than they have realized. Performance will obviously be beyond belief bording on magical.
take care
I have a .224- 284 on a M700 action and have experiance with the 6mm and 6.5. What do you need to know?
I also, do quite well with the 6.5 at 1000 yd.s.
What?, small fry, do you think is so magical?

Great performance, not so spectacular feeding with 140+grn bullets. I can single load no problem, but for varmit work I can only get the 100 grain or less bullets to load from the mag.

fredj338djd,
I am wondering if there is a large enough performance gap between a .260rem & the 6.5x.284? I plan on it as a varminter/target rig, building it around the 107-120gr Sierra MK. I could single load 140's for serious (past 600yd) target work.

smallfrydjd... I have noticed that many people get carried away with there X-284 wildcats, so I thought id throw in some sarcasim.
I just like the 6.5 's better than the .277. B.C. is better in the same weight bullet. This is only for punching holes in targets.
Example: .264, 140gr.=.550
.277, 140gr.=.486
Hornady 5th edition.
Aside from that, it is predjudice on my part. The 6.5X284 is "cleaning up" at 1000 yd.s all over the country. Nuff said..
Other than that, I think you need to use more bullet than gun.
Some people think more gun than bulllet, hence, the 45-70 users ,etc., etc.,etc.
Dave.
Can't believe I said that.
More gun than bullet, or
more bullet than gun. Maybe we need a thread on this.!!?????
