17HMR 6.5in. =2000fps
Ok,,, I am trying to add this up...

Here it goes..
First just read a blurp stating almost 2000 fps from a 6.5in. Ruger single action...

That comes to 307fp inch. In order to reach the 2550fps.mark, you should need a little more than 8in.

So has any one started cutting down their 22in. barrels yet? Heck, might even speed things up a bit...

Yes, I know it does not work like that, but it does make you think...

Somewhere I saw a site that actually had data on velocity vs barrel lenght for the 17 HMR - they hacked off the barrel an inch at a time - what I remember is peak velocity occured at around 19" of barrel lenght. The numbers are out there you just need to search around some.

Thank you... This is exactly the information I was looking for... I had a suspision that the longer barrels were not an improvment on this cal.

Again, Thank you...
