lalThe Perfect 6.5 SORRY QUINTUS
Naturally it is the 6.5x54 M-S and the 6.5 Swede

12 October 2012, 01:08
huffmaniteWell, don't know about the 6.5xx54 m-s, but last year I ordered a Shaw Savage replacement barrel for a rifle. Gave a 260 Remington barrel serious consideration, but decided a fourth rifle in 6.5x55 that was not a built on a Swedish surplus military action would be better.

QuintusTruth be told I think I still like the 260 as good as any. They are all about equal, some barrels just last longer than others that's all.

LJSA friend recently inherited a rifle which we have determined is a 6.5x57. After a little research I've come to the conclusion that is a cartridge that has some real potential. Might have to consider one in the future. Midway sell S&B ammo for twenty bucks a box so headstamped brass is easily obtainable.

lalAnd cases can be formed from 7x57 brass....BONUS!

GSSP6.5? YES!!

54 or 55? NO!
Try -47mm as in Lapua!!!

lalOne thing I can say is that I find most 6.5 calibers sexy as hell and they ALL work well!

Bren7X64Waiting to get my 6.5 x 51 sent to me ....
That's a rifle I am really keen to get my hands on.

The bigger the case capacity the greater the velocity at the same pressures.

HOWEVER!!! If you want it to adequately kill animals to the size of mule deer in a pleasant to shoot light rifle than the 6.5 Jap. 6.5 Carcano or the 6.5x54 have been around for over 100 years can handle heavy for caliber bullets, and will get the job done in short order when loaded to full potential in a modern ,strong action.

Own a sporterized type 38 Arisaka military rifle thats been rechambered to 257R....so its basically a 6.5x57. Don't hunt, just shoot paper, and like the 7x57 or 257r or 6mm remington, the 6.5x57(257R) is a mild recoiling cartridge, fun to shoot from a benchrest.

budicealei have a 6.5 grendel, 6.5x55, 6.5x57, 6.5-06, 6.5 rem mag and think they're all about perfect
blaming guns for crime is like blaming silverware for rosie o'donnell being fat

KabluewyI have one 6.5 Grendel and one 6.5x55, and really like them both. I have two other Grendels on the way, one in AR15 and another in a mini-mauser.
The Grendel with the 100gr Barnes TTSX is a real deer slayer.
I hope to have my AR-15 assembled by January or Feburary so I can take it to Texas and try it on hogs.

Sorting through them is like sorting through a Victoria's Secret catalog and trying decide who is the hottest chic.

lalI know EXACTLY what you mean... Well said scott

Vol717K-VAR in Las Vegas is importing Zastava M98 Mauser clones. I bought a 6.5X57 and I think I'll like it a lot once I get dies in. Right now the stock is going on a diet.

NorwegianwoodsThe 6.5x55 is great and the 6.5-06 is even better

gumboot458Yup, IMO the 6.5s in the 260 Rem.velocity window are ideal. Fast enuf yet not too fast with the right diameter.
The only problem with the 260 is Ruger doesn't make a factory rifle in the caliber anymore.
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

SR4759The 6.5X55 is about perfect if you want easy to load ammo, easy to find brass and dies.
The 6.5X54 MS is ok if you can find a good rifle for it.
I kinda like messing with the rimmed version -
the 6.5X53.5R Dutch round.
