Big HornsRem. 700 Classic
I was at a Gun Show today and bought a 6MM in the Rem. 700 Classic. I would like to know the value of this rifle as I can not find any listing on Gun broker. It is about 98%. Thanks.

Charlie P.(NY)Value is based on what two parties agree to exchange. So it is worth just what you paid.
Seriously - Remington never listed the 700 Classic in 6mm. So you either have a one-of-a-kind super rare rifle, a post-factory mash-up, or you are mistaken.

Lamarthey did make the 6mm on a short action, blued and synthetic.
they are okay shooters with heavier bullets.

Big HornsCould it be a 700 Mountain Rifle? It has no cheek piece and a factory narrow pad?

SliderYou can decode the Serial number here.
https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/You can also just E-Mail Remington the Serial number and ask them what the year of Manufacture is.
Stocks on Remington Rifles are easily changed? Maybe you have a BDL or ADL with a Classic stock on it?

Big HornsIt is logit. I called Remington this morning and checked serial no. It was made in 1978 in the 6mm. So much for the speculations. Thought is was right and it is. Thanks for responses.

SliderThe Model 700 Classic was first introduced in 1978, sixteen years after the
grand conception of the Model 700. Initial chamberings included: 22-250 Remington,
243 Win, 6mm Remington (1978-1983), 7mm Remington Magnum, 270 Win, 30-06 Springfield.
In 1981 the Model 700 Classic was designated annually as a Limited Edition in a single select, classic caliber. The six original calibers remained a part of the standard product line until 1985. The 2005 offering marks the 25th and final classic cartridge offered in this storied series.

AFRICAN LEADWOODI'm more a Model 70 guy but the Classic is quite nice looking and I certainly approve of the chambering... and when Ackley Improved it is absolutely great! Not that you would probably do that to your 1978 Classic! Enjoy it.
