gofast.220 Swift sporter rifles
I'd like a new .220 Swift with sporter contour barrel. I've burned the bbl out of my old Ruger 77V and would like a lighter replacement. Is anyone chambering good new rifles for the 220?
Would a synthetic stock, my old action, and a new bbl be cost effective?
Thanks

the jiggerRe-barrel your Ruger! I just re-barreled a 12fv Savage with an E.R.Shaw barrel and it is great. I am in the process of load development; of the seven different loads i've fired only one exceeded 1". The two I have decided on shot 5 shot groups of .326"and .376". Shaw will make any barrel you want. The only down side is 12 weeks delivery.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!

I don't think anyone is chambering the Swift, currently. I'd think that you'd be able to rebarrel for the approximate cost of a new rifle, or less. Then you'd have a wicked accurate barrel on an action you are intimately familiar with. You might even be able to scrounge up a used (yet usable) Factory sporter stock to seal the deal....

OddbodNew "drop in" barrel for a Savage chambered in .220Swift is $305 from Shilen.
ER Shaw barrels are around half that.

AtkinsonI have had both good an bad Shaw barrels but its not worth it to me to buy a Shaw anymore..I use Lothar Walther barrels and have never had a bad one nor have I known of anyone that has..and I know a lot of shooters that use them..
They are expensive, but like most things you get what you pay for, and you never have to buy two or three of them to get your rifle to shoot....

tiggertateIf you look around the net you might find a Rem 700 Classic in 220 Swift. That was the last sporter-configured rifle in 220 Swift I can remember. Otherwise you're going to have to build it. The fastest way would probably to find a 6mm Rem 700 and rebarrel it.

jstevensI like a stiff sporter barrel, mine is 26 in. and .625 or .650 at the muzzle. I have never had a dud with Douglas or Pacnor, havent owned a L Walther barrel. Go with a 1-12 twist, not 1-14.

drm-hpGofast,
I sent a Ruger 77v in 220 Swift to Hart barrels for rebarreling several years ago. What I received back was better than the original rifle. The ss barrel looked so good with the blued receiver, that is now my standard. If you want a lighter contour, ask them to replicate a magnum sporter coutour, then find a sporter contour stock. Or a new stock made to your new barreled action.
That is my suggestion, but you have so many options.
Good luck, and have fun with it.
Thanks, Doug

mgoodrichIn answer to the question is anyone chambering for the 220 swift, Remington still is.
Although they only have one model shown that they still do and that is the model 700 in VSSFII.
