Code4.264 Winchester Magnum
There is no small African Hunting board so I'm putting this here.
I have a 2nd hand Remington 700 ADL .264 WM on its way with less than 100 rounds through it.
I bought this rifle to hunt Springbok (30-50kg)at 300 +++ metres. What scope and load would the local African hunters on here recommend ?

Springbok are small animals.....I'd guess under 100 pounds live weight.
The .264 is a fabulous round but frankly, I'd slow it down a tad or use 140 s in it. I'd bet it'll leave a very large hole. All you have to do is hit them just about anywhere. Look to the Nosler partition and a moderate load.
I'd mount a 3-9 X 40 Leupold on it and never look back!

duckboatAre you going to be hunting additional animals also? If so, the 264 would be a good fit for many types. I would choose something bigger caliber than the 264 for animals such as zebra or kudu, but anything smaller than that would be a great fit for the 264. I'm not saying the 264 wouldn't take a zebra or kudu, I'm just saying something 30 caliber or bigger would be my choice for the bigger animals and I'd use the 264 on anything smaller. I agree the 140 grain bullet would be the best choice.

Code4duckboat,
My next trip to Africa will my 6th so I have the rest of Plains game covered with another rifle.

This 264WM is a very specialized application for a very specialised hunt. If you can suggest a scope and load I would like to hear your thoughts.

duckboatI'd probably lean towards a 140 Accubond. If you think you might try it out on a larger animal, I might go with a partition or a-frame. I've tried using rl-22, rl-25, imr7828, but I now like using US-869 the best. It's the only powder of the four that will come close to filling up the case and I get good velocity and accuracy.

duckboatI use a 3.5x10 Leupold on my 264 and think it works fine for a wide range of shots.

LorenzoA good scope for the money will be a Zeiss Conquest 4-14x44

larrysI use the Leupold 3.5x10 also on my 264. I load 125 Partitions and they have never failed me on deer much larger that the 50Kg you are looking at.
