230 Ackley
I am busy doing a bullet for a 230 Ackley. Does anyone know what the specification barrel bore diameter of this caliber is? The barrel groove diameter is obviously .230" and the twist is given as 1:10".

Krieger makes 23 caliber barrels at .228 groove, .234 bore

Wouldn't that be.228 bore with .234 grooves?

The only way to know if you can do a thing is to do it.

230 groove would be pretty close to the savage Hi-Power.
they used 228.
the bore diameter could be anywhere depending on the rifling type they use.
2-groove, 3 groove,4-Tall/square, 5-R/metford, 6-8-12..

In the 1987 Gun Digest, John Masters did an article on the 23 caliber cartridges.
He claims a 1-10 twist and a .230 bore, .234 diameter bullet. Doesn't mean he's right though....!

There is not a lot of information available on this cartridge so the best course of action was to ask the owner to measure certain dimensions of the barrel and action. I have done a safe experimental bullet and will ask the owner to do some tests and we will see where that goes. The groove of the barrel measures at .230" and the bore is .227". We have worked out what the protrusion should be and so on. Once the testing is done, I can do a final bullet. Fortunately we have lots of terminal data for this speed, weight and caliber so that is no problem. We should be right on the money with that.

Just because the name says ".230" doesn't mean that is the actual groove diameter...
