Working up loads for 25-06
Hi all this is my first time posting on this forum. I have read alot of info on here. This is what I need help with I want to work up loads for a 25-06, problem is I have never done this. I have reloaded a bit for .223 off the "loads" worked up by my wifes uncle who has since passed away. When he did he left us all his reloading equipment for loading rifles shotguns and handguns. He also left us a .348 mod 71, a .223 sako vixen, a .30-06 sako finnbear and the 25-06 ultra h&r whch he didnt have anything for. I want to learn the right way to do it, I want a varmint rnd and a deer rnd. Any books or advice you guys can give me would be great. By the way he also left us a bunch of reloading logs he created for the 223 and 30-06

Personally I would not bother with working up two loads I would use 115gr either plain old vanilla Nosler Ballistic Tips or if you are fealing flush 115gr Combined Tech Ballistic Silver Tips.

With the current Barrel I found best accuracy with IMR 4350 at Noslers max load of 49.0grs

I loaded them at 10 thou off the lands and then in 10 thou increments deeper at 120 thou the groups shrank to a single hole.

Load development over shooting began dancing

The Factory Barrel prefered IMR 4831 again at Nosler max

I like the 100gr Sierra's or the Barnes 100gr TSX's and either RL22 or IMR4831 powder. With most bullets I have tried 54gr to 55gr of RL22 works great. I have had a couple of 25-06's that just preferred IMR4831.

I've used the 115 Silver Tips with great success. Starting new I would look hard at the 110Accubond. If I could have only one powder for the 25-06 it would be RL22.

As usual just my $.02

Have you loaded much, are you confident in your abilities in front of a loading press?
If not but any of the many new loading manuals and read it. Hornady ,Nosler have the most recent published books. The Lyman 49th edition is also a very goos place to start, the ABC's of reloading is another.
Working up any load typically starts in the middle of any given load, then you add 1/2gr of powder load 3, then another 1/2gr load another 3 and so on till you get close to maximum load.FS

With the Nosler 85gr BTBT and 54.5gr RL17, I have
gotten groups down to 5/16". Bullets were .015 off
the lands.

With the Hornady 100gr SP and 53gr RL17, I have
gotten consistent groups of 3/4" with bullets
being .015 off the lands.

This is with a Savage 112 VLP.

Thanks for the responses so far guys. I do have a stockpile of powders that came with the reloading stuff. It is mostly IMR and H types. FS I have a few older reloading manuals Sierra and Speer. I have been looking into updated ones. I feel a bit comfortable o the press but want to learn more I got somebody thats very good at it that has been walking me throough it just want to learn all the details for precision and safety.
