Dave JenkinsFactory .223 Ammo
I know every rifle has its preferences but it was interesting to read in the latest issue of ST that the cheap Win USA 45gr. JHP shot the second best group(.81") out of the 18 loads tested. The rifle was the new CZ 527 with a 24" 1x9 twist. The author tested ammo topped with bullets of 40 to 60 grains only. The best group was with the Horn 40 grain Vmax .59" @100 and 1.83" @ 300yds.
Nice looking rifle BTW and if its throated properly it should have no trouble with the 70 and 80 grainers...

knightkrawler00Before I started reloading, I shot Black Hills 50gr VMAX through my Colt HBAR Elite AR15. The Black Hills shoots to the same point of impact and groups open up just slightly.

tjm58I use the Win..45 gr. Varmit loads, and reload for my Bushmaster Varmiter, and both give me great results. I only reload for the enjoyment of it. But in a pinch, I would not hesitate to use the Win. ammo!

RogerCoxThe Win varmint value pack stuff really works well in my 223 and 22-250. I have 1/2" 3 shot groups with an old Kimber of Oregon 223 and an older Rem 700 HBV in 22-250.
Stuff really works for me. Pricing seems to be all over the map, but now I'll probably only re-load for fun.

Virginia YankHave experimented with the various 223 bullet weights with my CZ527 and T/C Contender 14" hunter. Both have a 1/12 rate of twist. In my experience, the lighter the bullet the better the accuracy regardless of cost and manufacturer. When I tried the 62 grain rounds in the T/C they actually "keyholed" through the target sideways. The 55 grains worked ok but were inconsistant. The 45's are, by far, the most accurate in both guns.
Before I started reloading, I had great success with Federal American Eagle 50 Gr HP's. They were very accurate and inexpensive.

sdgunslingerYou can buy Black Hills remanufactured stuff locally for $12 per 50 ; with a 52 gr. match bullet. Very accurate and I think a heck of a buy .........

<NRC>My TC 21" carbine 1:12 really likes the 45g UMC Hollowpoints. My groups are only limited at this point by how steadily I can nest the stock at the bench..
As good as it shoots em and as cheap as they are, I'm not sure how much I'm gonna worry about reloading it either. Kinda disappointed in a way that I didn't have to look so far for a good load

KevinNYA 1/9 twist will not handle 80 grain bullets in 223, 75's yes, 80 no.

groundhog devastationAs much as I enjoy reloading and R&D with different bullets and powders, the 223 Winchester USA 45 grain factory loads in my XP-100 shoots 1/2 inch @100 and I don't need to bother with reloading if I can buy 40 for 11.95!! I've got too many other things to R&D, or reload something I've already done the R&D for to have to mess with the 223!!!!GHD
