Planning a Mule deer and a antelope hunt soon. What bullet weight do you recomend for both???

Only one choice in my book, hundred grain TTSX.

For my 257 Roberts, I use 100 grain Nosler Partitions. But, for your rifle, you might want to test some of the heavier Partitions. Partitions are GREAT killers!
However, I would think the 100 grainer in your rifle would be a screamer..

I load a 115 or 120 grain Nosler Partition for my grandsons to shoot Whitetail Deer. The speed is 3450-3500 fps. Last year one of them hit a 180 pound Buck between the neck and shoulder head-on, at a distance of 150 yards. We recovered the bullet in the opposite ham under the skin, it had a perfect mushroom. We couldn't have asked for better performance. Good shootig.

For the big .257 caliber use the heavier bullets. I have found the .257 wby marginal for large deer (mule deer) under extreme conditions. I like 120 gr. premium bullets. (this does not apply to pronghorns but on a combo hunt i would shoot the same load at both, have a good hunt. Dr.C

Mine loves the 100 grain TSX bullets and I have a box of the 115 grain TSX that I haven't worked up a load for yet. The 100s leave the muzzle at ~3550 from a 24 inch barrel and are VERY accurate. If they shoot, I would probably prefer the 115 grain bullets for mule deer and the 100s for pronghorn.

For muledeer you sure don't need anything heavier than the 100 grain barnes.
It will shoot end to end of the biggest mule deer that haas ever walked.
The extra 15 grains gains a person nothing except peace of mind, which to the right person may be enough.

I have shot 115 gr Nosler partitions for over 15 years @ 3500 FPS. Outstanding deer and antelope load. Never had an animal take a step after being hit. I select my shots carefully. Never recovered a bullet; all pass throughs.
Never anything but "soup" in the chest cavity.

110gr Nosler Accubond work really well in mine with IMR-7828. They will take down any mule deer out there.

Another vote for the 110 Nosler Accubond.Loaded mine over Rl-25 and anchored a nice whitetail this year in Montana.

I use Serria 100gr bullets or Nosler Partition for hunting with my 257 Mark V

N E 450 No2
I have shot several Texas deer with factory Weatherby loads in the 100gr PT-EX [a Hornady bullet], a 100gr Nosler Partition, and a 120gr Nosler Partition.

Could not tell any difference in killing "power".

If all your shooting will be in open country at a distance it will probably not matter, but IF the deer hunting might call for shots in cover, up close, then the 100 Nosler Partition would be hard to beat.

It gives good trajectory, and expansion at long range, and good penetration at close range.

FWIW,
my go to load in the 257 weatherby is 100 gr partitions over a stiff load of IMR 7828 at +/- 3650 fps.
Shoots flat, hits hard, kills stuff DRT.

If your 257WBY shoots the 100TSX or TTSX you are in business..............

I killed a Red Hartebeest with Mike Kibble in Namibia in 2006 with a frontal quartering shot that lodged in the rear hip........100TSX...after smashing the on shoulder.

Otherwise the 110 AB will kill any deer that walks.......... thumb

the count seems to be leaning toward the 100 grainer. With any bullet the 257 Weatherby seems to be a death ray. I think that I made a good choice in calabers.

Thanks

You will like the 100gr for antelope, but not for mule deer. Dr.C

I have shot 1/2 dozen or so antelope with a 100 Ballistic tips at about 3550 fps in my 257 wby. It drops them.

I agree, the 115 grain TSX shoots flatter on long distances and kills even very big Turkish boar.

The 100 TSX is a well proven bullet in the 257 wby. Curious why you don't feel good about it?

My wife takes mule deer cleanly with her 25/06 with 100gr BTs out to 300yds. The 257WM with 100gr barnes T or TTSX should be devastating on any deer sized game.

I would start with a 100 grain barnes tripple shock.
It in my experence has proven to be a very accurate bullet in several rifles and several chamberings...tj3006

DUK: according to Barnes' website, the 100gr TSX has a higher BC than the 115TSX. So it can be launched faster AND it has a better BC. don't see why the 115 would shoot flatter at any range.

Your right but the Sectional Density is higher with the 115gr TSX.
