Best off the shelf .22 LR Rifle
So I'm looking for a 22 rimfire rifle and I only have 2 criteria: it most be an easily available factory rifle and it must be accurate! All actions, stock types finishes etc are in play. I just want to know which one shoots!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

You need to toss in cost.
The CZ's are hard to beat in that price range.
Then you can jump to the Kimber, Cooper etc.

For not much $$ you can take a factory 10/22 and turn it into a tack driver. Buy a barrel and trigger group

As usual just my $.02

Everything Paul said is exactly what I would say.
I got lucky and have a 77/22 that shoots like a champ with my 4x Leupold on it (with a trigger upgrade). Maybe add that to your list of "worth watching".

Both my CZ and my 10-22 are both tack drivers. Take your pick, you can't go wrong. Jerry Hoover

Hadn't payed much attention to CZ, I come to find out they have interchangeable barrels so I can get both 22 LR and 17 hmr. Now that's sexy!!!!

I have shot several different Remington 541's. Including the 2 I owned and the 3 my buddy owned quite a bit.
IMHO they are the most accurate non heavy match type 22lr factory rifle.

The most accurate (tricked out) rifle I've ever shot was an Anschutz: if memory serves me precisely, with 5 shots I hit 4 BBs stuck to the top of a target board at 50 yards without touching wood. IMO you can't do better than Anschutz. Period.

Having said that, I have a CZ 452 silhouette which is scary accurate: 5 shots in 0.5 inches, I believe, is its best. It's always good for <0.75 in with the right ammo (it likes Norma TAC and shoots it most consistently).

Bottom line: Anschutz 54 first, and CZ second (I'd recommend the CZ 455 varmint).

JFWIW.

Believe it or not I shot one cheap Marlin Glenfield model 60 that was a tack driver. I like CZ's except the backwards safety.

Purchase a Anschutz 1712 barreld action, and put it in a McMillan 1700 Featherweight stock.

There you have the best!

Now, there are cheaper and very good rifles out there! But the above is the best!

So believe it or not I'm am actually located in St John's Newfoundland right now and other than Savage, Ruger, Marlin or Remington there isn't much. Even online ordering is pretty limited here. I can maybe get a CZ by order but that's certainly on the exotic side for any store here.

Take a 10/22 put a Kidd or Volquartzen barrel and trigger group and you will have a rifle more accurate than you are.

Another vote for Anschutz if you are looking for a real shooter Cool

I've owned some nice target accurate 22 LRs. but I've had more enjoyment being in the woods or field with the Ruger 10/22 just as it comes from the factory. beer roger

Ruger American gives you the best bang for your buck out of the box with no mods. Savage is 2nd choice for cheap/accurate.

10/22 is great if you like to tinker.

CZ is nice if you can get past the backwards trigger.

Your best value is a used Winchester 69 or Remington 541. They are among the best mass produced 22s of all time.

My Ruger 10/22 is on it's 4th factory barrel, I've baught several barrels from guys that wanted to upgrade their rifles from the start. I have had very good luck with my rifle, as is. I squirrel hunt with mine regularly and it works great.

Also.. I would say, as long as the CZ 452 American is available through Whittaker guns, I would purchase a few.

One of the best rimfire rifles ever made!

Whittaker has imported large batches, 500 I belive a couple of times after CZ stopped producing them, and they sold out very fast.

So, CZ 452 American and Anschutz 1712 in McMillan stock.
