Another One of those RARE 1/2 MOA Rifles.....

rcamugliaAnother One of those RARE 1/2 MOA Rifles.....
Or even less.
The first 4 shots during barrel break-in literally went into one hole. The reason I didn't settle on that for the load was velocity.
Even though many here believe that these animals don't exist or, if they do, they are few and far between, here it is.....
Granted, it is a custom, purpose-built machine built by a talented gunsmith in 6.5 Creedmoor.
That's 5 shots
He's got a .264 in the works for me that I'm sure will do the same.
After seeing what a well-built rifle is capable of, I think everyone would be money ahead to have one made by someone who knows what they are doing. Thinking of all the $ I have spent over the years on components for my factory rifles trying to make them do this brings perspective. Sure, I've succeeded in getting accuracy close to this with stock rifles, but only after a lot of time and experimentation with different components. This thing does it with the first bullet/powder combination you choose.
I can't wait to see how well it groups when I actually get a scope on it!

BlacktailerAre those powder burns I see around the bullet holes?

Just kidding! looks like a nice rifle.

DannoBooneIt had to be the RL17!

Seriously, it has cut groups for me by as much as 1/2" on
an already sub-MOA .25-06. Done so, AFTER a hundred rounds
and a dozen load/bullet combinations.
GREAT shooting on both you and your rifle's part!

rcamugliaDanno..
I think you're right about the RL-17. While breaking in the barrel, I used the time to test 3 powders for max load. Win 760 and RL-17 gave about the same velocities but the group with the 760 was at least twice as large. I shot the RL-17 at one point of aim but increased the charge weight by .5 grains to find the max, just 1 shell of each. Basically an Audette's Ladder shot at 100 yards.
The RL-17 ladder (about 15 shots) grouped at about 1" even though they weren't the same charge weight! Most of the holes were touching.

seafire/B17Gand for those of us that can't tell anything more than it is a remington action
how about some of the details about the rifle..
I can get a rifle to shoot groups like that...as you discovered the right powder and load can do wonders...
What I compliment is the rifle.. it looks 'business like' for the job at hand... a job well done..

RockdocThat's the biggest ghost ring sight I've ever seen!

Nice shooting and very nice rifle.
I would like to hear the details of the rifle as well.
Did you try other powders or only RE17?

rcamugliaGreat group 308sako!
Only thing is that a group is not 3 shots, it's 5 Hahahaha!
Anyway guys,
Check out the Reloading Forum. I posted the latest results of testing. 4 shots in .25" and one that "blew" the group.

wasbeemanUhhh, if I'd laid that much money on a smith, assuming I was up to it, and it wouldn't shoot .5MOA, it'd be back in his shop.
good looking rifle.

I'll admit that I've said on a few occasions that there are more 1/2" groups fired on the internet than have ever been fired at the range! I'm sticking to that BTW
This sir is damn fine shooting.....I've only ever had one gun that could beat it.....out of over a hundred.

rcamugliaThank you Vapo! You haven't been on the Forum lately! I've missed your input on lots of topics.
Here is the last group I fired after fine tuning a bit with both charge weight and depth:

308SakoMan I hate to tell you this but first off I didn't shoot that group... a friend did. It is a five shot group however as were the other three groups on that target. Two shooters using two rifles and one load...

Custom Rem 700 Rock Creek 5R M24 profile, Leupold 8.5 x 25 LRT and a Jewel trigger in ounces.

rcamugliaGreat 300 yard groups!

rcamugliaHere's what the Creedmoor did at 500 yards today........
Today was the first time I shot it at any range other than 100. I was just fire-forming the new brass. Had some vertical and the groups weren't as tight as I'd like out to 700. I need to tweak the load a little. This was a pretty good group with no vertical. Had a 2-3 Mph wind. I held dead on. That's a 1" dot for an aimpoint

GSSPNow I see why you think I should have gone with the CM instead of my 6.5 Lapua.

rcamugliaYou'll be fine.
I've heard good things about the Lapua as well

That's what to look for in a longe range load... no vertical to speak of... Nice shooting RC

montdougNot to worry GSSP.
I just had Greg Tannel at Gre'Tan Rifles in Rifle Colo. put together a 6X47 Lapua with a 1 in 12 Kreiger for me (last summer actually I picked it up in August).
On my second trip to the range for load development with two different bullets it shot these two 5 shot 100 yard groups.
To top it all off it was about a $100.00 dollar rifle brand new in 1966 or 67, a 788 Remington actually. Single pointed the action, double sleeved and bushed the bolt, pillar bedded it etc. etc. Greg is a smith in class of his own as well. (I did the stock work myself, original stock, I used all ten thumbs on er

).
If that old beast of a .22-250 redone into a 6X47 Lapua will shoot like that I have no doubt that that beautiful piece of work you have will shoot just as well as a 6.5 Lapua as it would a 6.5 Creed-More.
I've never laid hands on a Creed-More but my limited experience with the Lapua tells me other than a bit of velocity there is no real advantage in accuracy one way or the other. I'd guess rifle and ability would be the deciding factor in that comparison.
Nice looking piece, congrats!

rcamugliaWhat amazes me about the Creedmoor is its efficiency. I'm getting 2950 to 3000 fps with the 139 gr Lapua scenar with 42.9 grs of RL-17.
I'm also doing load development for a new .264 WM. With 35 more grs of powder, I'm only getting 200+ fps!

carpetman1Rare 1/2 moa? Seems with a keyboard over 90% do it all the time everyday. World records broken every trip to the range. One hole groups---more common than 300 bowling games and hole in one in golf. Now for myself--I shoot one hole groups all the time--on the first shot too.
21 December 2009, 18:07
wasbeemanGotta love those 788s. I bought a used one in .222 and had a new Douglas barrel put on it and had a buddy alter the trigger so's it was adjustable. When I glass bedded the action, I was a little cavalier with my release agent and so, when I whopped it over the back of the sofa to make it turn loose, I ended up with a two piece stock. I put it back together with brass pins, gorilla glue, and epoxy and figured I couldn't do any more damage so I flattened out the forearm and glued a flat plate on it. And then I painted it a flat, battleship gray. It was ugly. I mean a 788 is ugly to begin with and I didn't help it any. (I didn't have the walnut stock, mine was an old piece of pallet wood to begin with) I mounted a T36 on it and worked up a load and took it to the range. They wouldn't let me shoot it in the factory matches for obvious reasons and stuck me in with the Bench Rest guys. I'd love to make this some sort of Horatio Alger story and say I won, but, of course, I didn't. But I didn't lose neither. My agg for 5 relays was kinda in the middle at a .4 something if I remember correctly.

Aim for the exit hole

p dog shooterNice groups
A while ago I was shooting my 223 and my 06. I shot a group with the 223 and then with the 06 at the same target. When I looked through the spoting scope. I asked my self whats wrong with the 06 the groups are huge next to the 223 group.
When I went up to the target and looked the problem was not the 06 the trouble was the 223.

It had all the shots into a quarter of a inch making the 06 group look big at just under .750 of a inch.
