Barnes 85 gr. TSX in .243 win
I just bought a M70 compact in >243 Win. for my sons to use in Tanzania on warthog, impala, and grants gazelle. Anyone tried the Barnes TSX's in this caliber. I hope this is the right combination of light recoil and enough power for these animals. My youngest is 11 and requires the light recoil.

Tanzania in 2006! Had 141 posts on prior forum as citori3.

Can't comment on the species your after as I have never hunted them hopefully someone with experience will chime in on that. But as far as the TSX in the 243 goes my B-I-L shot a 160 Class Bighorn here in Oregon year before last at over 200 yards in the boiler room, he went 20 yards and piled up dead, performed perfectly.

I would not feel that it wouldn't do, with good shot placement, anything a 30/06 wouldn't do...

Although they are not my cup of tea.. based on accuracy doubts... but I load for a few guys each season, and they have used the TSXs in various calibers.. and none have ever had a failure....

and in smaller calibers, the results were equal to much larger calibers....

Althought I normally lean toward Nosler over Barnes.. in a 243, I'd load the TSX if I was going to Africa....

cheers
and good luck to you and your son on your safari!

I would go for the 100gr Nosler Partition before the Barnes TSX. The Barnes has just never come up to my standards for accuracy in hunting conditions. I have a stainless Winchester Featherweight in 243 that I really appreciate for a carry gun. JMHO

My Featherweight .243 didn't like the 100 Partition, but does real well with the TSX. Try them both and pick your poison. The 85 TSX being lighter might help the younger boys recoil tolerance though.

The 85 gr TSX and H4350 is the best load I have in my A-Bolt 243
