6.5 Grendal

ramrod3406.5 Grendal
Some of you might remember I picked up a Mini Mauser in 7.62 back in January. We discussed many re-barreling options. After my summer and fall health issues I'm getting back to putting some fun things on my plate.
What would be the heaviest bullet you would use in a Mini 6.5 Grendal?
Big thing I have to keep telling myself is to not test fire it in 7.62. Got a stock, scope and ammo.

Would hate to have a 7.62 tack driver when I want something else.
As usual just my $.02

Mikee-NZI have a 6.5TCU which is almost the same thing as your Grendal. I use 100gn TTSX and 123 AMAX.
In my 24 inch barrel I get 2750fps with the 100gn TTSX and 2650 with 123 Amax

theback40Paul,I have a mini with the .470 boltface and am leaning towards a 6.5 Benchrest. Same thing as a Grendal for the most part.
I see S&K makes rings and bases that look good, not sure what for a barrel size/length? What do you have for a stock in mind?

scottfromdallasI would be all over the 123 SST, it has a .510 BC and is ideal for Grendel speeds. I would also look at the 120 Ballistic Tip but I tend to favor Ballistic Tips.

eyeman+1 on the 120 BT, but with a semi auto I think the speed will be less than a bolt action..I use TAC powder and 120 BT great accuracy.

I can't imagine the need to run 140 grain bullets in it when there are so many choices in the 120 to 130 grain range.
I regularly shoot a 6.5 Swede and although it shoots Sierra Matchking 140's into tiny little groups, it does the same with 120 grain bullets of all kinds including the 120 Matchkings.

ramrod340I have 100S OF 130accubonds from another project. But, after a good night sleep and

I figured why handicap it from the start.
Stock will be a copy of Snellstroms stock he was nice enough to loan me. Shape is like this

That is one gorgeous hunk of wood. Will you be taking off any wood?

Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

ramrod340That wood happens to be TC1 I believe. We believe the pattern is an old GAG. I was only showing the shape and thought everyone needed to see some great wood.
As to taking more wood off. I thought I would duplicate it as it stands and remove a little extra for appearance and feel.
Hopefully I'll get this picc line out this week so I can start some upper body rehab. A lot of muscles that haven't done much for 4 months. Got grandkids to play with a Christmas.

I have that same pattern in a small ring. "I think" and I'm too lazy to go down and look.
But since I bought it from Chris it might be your parent. Nope tips are different.
Here is the mini. I have no clue if it started life with panels or not.

Steve E.If you haven't been there yet take a look at
http://www.65grendel.com/forum/I believe someone posted about shooting the 160 gr bullets in the Grendel.
I converted a Mini Mauser to 6.5 Grendel and really love it. I regularly shoot 100 gr and 120 gr bullets the only difference is the little bit of extra speed going to the 100 gr bullets of course. I think the go to powder for the 6.5 Grendel has fast become the CFE 223 powder with IMR 8202 running a close second.
