sevenmagltd.Ruger "Safari" .223
Saw one at DSC last year and seemed to be a neat rifle in a small safari style package. Has anyone shot this rifle and have an opinion??
Thanks

2kuduhunterIt's sitting next to me screaming, shoot me. Will post up later this week.

I got one to use as a practice gun for Africa. I had to send it back because of a gap where the floorplate latched. I know of two others with the same problem. Ruger fixed it up fine. The feeding of shells can be a little cranky but I've found that in a lot of small caliber bolt guns when cycled quickly. I get about 1.25 to 1.5 inch groups with inexpensive ammo. I haven't reloaded for it yet.

sevenmagltd. Is the "safari" grade actually the Hawkeye? For some reason I am thinking it is a different rifle.
My gun is a Hawkeye Safari Model 17199. It has sights and a barrel band front swivel. You can get a gun that looks the same in 375 Ruger.

Fury01With quite a few 260 Remington topics in the list lately and this on the Ruger Safari: I sure wish Ruger had run this rifle in the 260 remington. "sigh"
With Safari in the name and sights on the barrel with barrel band, my new found stash of 160 Hornady RN's and a few hundred solids....I could have killed enough plains game for donkey saddles and every Elephant/Cape Buffalo in Kansas. I have not found one yet by the way but still looking.

best regards,
