I haven't and am unlikely to as I normaly use Viht powders. H4350 was on hand as I load it in my 7x57 and seeing as it appeared so good for that bullet in the manual I used it. I will likely try some VVN160 when I get a chance. The H4350 load exhibits no signs of pressure and is a safe (for me!) working load. I have run out of the 85gr BTSPs and find the 87gr SPs to do the same job so will exhaust that box first.

I have tried the 85gr sierra BTHP and they worked well on small deer- my beef is the terrible BC which for the shooting I do is an issue.

Hey 1894, Tell us about those "VV" Powders. How well do you like them? Do they burn clean in your rifle? Consistent Pressure when near a SAFE MAX Load?

Back when they first came out I read an atricle about them which was extremely positive. It also mentioned some "5-series" powders (VV-560, etc.) which was supposed to have a bit more potential for higher Velocity in some cartridges. Have you tried any of the "5-series" Powders?

When I looked for them in Charlotte, NC, all the VV Powders were a good bit more expensive than the regular IMR and Hodgdon Powders I use and there was even a higher price on the 5-series.

One of the GunShop owners told me he had switched to a VV Powder in his 45ACP and was extremely pleased with it. Something about being able to meet a particular "Power Level" with less Powder and it burned very clean in his Loads.

FWIW, I tried VN560 in my 300WSM. It beat out H4831SC as the hardest stick powder to meter I have ever used. It bridged in both my measure and funnel constantly. Accuracy was erratic, one group decent, next one vertically strung out 3". It was too hard to work with to really try and wring out the accuracy issues, and it is only available in 2 lb cans, so you get a lot to fight with for a first time trial.

I use VN340 in my 40S&W. Great powder there, and widely used in practical pistol competitions due to the power factor your gun shop guy mentioned.

Apologies for the lateness due to holidays. VV 1 series are great. I have had amazing accuracy but mainly choose them because they make their own in their own factory, have data for the metrics that I shoot, are very clean burning (main reason) and don't smell like s**t when you fire a shot. They are generaly not so high velocity as some other powders but H4350 despite being great in my 243 is definately a much greater powder fouler and also stinks of rotten eggs when I shoot.

I shoot:-
VVN135 in my 5.6x50r and 9.3x62
VVN140 in my 9.3x62 with heavier bullets
VVN150 in my 6.5x55 and 7x57
VVN160 in my 6mm rem (really great)and 6.5x57R

They seem very consistant - VVN150 with a 100gr ballistic tip in my 6.5x55 would not be shamed in hunter bench rest. 2,950fps is pedestrian but the accuracy is out of this world.
