Just wondering if anyone uses this round for predators / varmints. I have a Vanguard S2 and looking to try it out on coyotes. Picked up some Hornady V-Max (58 & 75) and also some Barnes VG (62gr).

I have shot a few coyotes with my 240 wby I have used hornady 75 gr and nobler 70 gr. Both worked very well the 240wby is hard in hides though.

I've never really played with a 240Wby. Built a 240PDK a blown out necked down 280 case. Had a touch more capacity than the Wby. I found I burned a lot more powder to basically have 50fps over my 6mm. You want a Wby go for it. A 6mm is hard to beat

As usual just my $.02

I must have super fast 240s or super slow 6mms because my experience is the 240 blows the doors off my 6mm Rem. That said, all of your bullet choices are good for decapitating or disemboweling yotes from distance.

First questions that come to mind are same barrel length? Same pressure? I don't dispute others velocity claims I wasn't there.

I can only talk about my experience. My 240PDK had 69grs of capacity the 240Gibbs has 68 and I believe the Wby is 64. In my 24" with 90-100gr bullets 3450 was the best I could do with 240PDK that is about the same as Rocky claimed with the Gibbs.

Same 24" 6mm 15grs less powder I get 3350-3400. I do set my bullets out longer than std 6mm OAL

Either would for sure get the job done. I just decided I didn't need to burn the extra powder. The action went on to become something else.

I guess part of me just doesn't care for loosing capacity so you can have that much belt. Roll Eyes

If you have the Wby go for it. It will turn the lights out on a coyote in a split sec.

Eeker What length barrel?? Assuming the factory 24" that is smoking. Factory 85gr barnes are only listed at 3500.

For all you Wby owners enjoy your rifles. Don't mind this old fart. Wink coffee

My 240 is a custom M98 with a 26 in barrel. When used on coyotes there isn't much left to skin.

Mine has a 26" barrel.
I bought a new Rem 700 in 25-06.
Gunsmith screwed out the barrel, chambered and screwed in a 6MM barrel and done
It feeds and shoots great

I know some cowboys in Colorado that shoot coyotes at all manner of ranges with them, the surprising thing is the do the same thing with elk, antelope and deer..I have witnessed these elk kills with the 240 Wby by them and its impressive to say the least..I would not take a going away shot with them however..

Well, I think I have narrowed it down a bit.

I've been thinking of doing a 243-280AI lately. The PDK must be really close.

I was thinking of the 243-280AI because one could neck down Nosler 280AI brass,.....NO fireforimg...:-)

Looks like a shooter. 6-280 AI would be a smoker. Fun to watch it hit.

Close. My shoulder is .46 40deg and the body shoulder point is 2.17". More like a Gibbs than an AI
