Any scope suggestions for a Savage 25 in 22 Hornet? Fixed or variable?

200-yard scope for a 200-yard rifle, maybe a 2-7X?

I have a 4-12x on my cz. I use it for small ground squirrel shooting and leave it on 12 power most of the time.

It's not the caliber that determines the most appropriate scope, but the use you put it to.

The .22 Hornet is primarily a shorter-range round which means that a lower magnification scope suffices. But it can also be used for very small targets (like bghntr416's ground squirrels), for which a higher magnification may be useful.

But the one thing that is common to most Hornet rifles is their relatively small size and light weight. I find a 3-9 Leupold Compact fits the gun and also fits most of the gun's uses. That's what I have on a number of .22 Hornet rifles. A fixed 6x is a good compromise if you prefer to avoid the complications (and some weaknesses) of variable scopes.

I have one on my Sako L46 Rahameki (sp) .222 and it is just about perfect!

On the wife's CZ 527, I have a older Leupold 2 x 7 compact
On my 1941 vintage Winchester M70 short rifle, I have a Leupold Alaskan 6x

2-7 X 32 VX II Leupold is about perfect.

Leupold 6x compact on a Kimber- I tend to prefer fixed power scopes, less fuss, never on the wrong power setting.

On a Hornet a 4X compact suits me fine, but a 2x7 Compact may suit todays shooter better...

I have three 22H, two have 4-12, one a 4.5-14, all are duplex, A/O, Leupold.

Well, my Savage 25 does weigh 8 pounds, and has a 24 inch barrel that measures 5/8 inch at the muzzle, so a larger scope would not look out of place...

Actually on a .22 Hornet there is no real need for a scope of more than 6X !

I shot 22 Hornets for ground squirrels for 20 years now. I have found that the 3-9x or 3-10x variable is perfect for my 22 Hornet rifles on ground squirrels. I get plenty of magnification out to my maximum effective range for a Hornet. The standard recommendation of a 6x gets tricky with mostly obscured shots much beyond 100 yards.

I usually have them set on 9x or 10x as I know what size squirrels are the various ranges out to 150 yards so I can hold off from visual memory for wind and drop. If I am close enough to blur because of the magnification I just shoot center mass of the blur. Not saying a 4x or 6x won't work, but I know what is more productive for me as far as racking up squeaks at Hornet distances.

If I had to pick a single scope I would go with a Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 as won't look overly large on a 22 Hornet action.

Use whatever suits but beware of a top heavy rifle...would be my only concern..

I like the 6x leopold for small guns.

Today's shooter tends to be over scoped, he is under the delusion that powerful scopes make up for his poor shooting mostly applicable to big game, and less so as to smaller varmints

I agree wit most; I would suggest a 2-7 or a small 6x power. What would be really cool- assuming you can find one- a Leupold Vari-X

Your wasting X.s on the Hornet, its a 200 yard rifle in reality unless your shooting pin heads

I installed a new riflescope on this Ruger K77/22 Hornet rifle.
A Vortex Crossfire II model CF2-31015 a 4-12 x 44mm 1” tube.
The reticle crosshair is the Dead Hold BDC (MOA).
I bought this scope in 2022 it was inexpensive $240.00
For hunting I leave it set a 4X for the wide field of view and quick targets acquisition. At the range I zoom up to 12 and wish it had more.

I rescoped this K77/22 Hornet rife because the bolt kept hitting the side of my old scope on the raised tower projection on the magnification adjustment ring.

2.5 x 5 on my CZ was favorite of all time.

just scoped a new to me pre 64 mod70 in 22 Hornet had two Leupolds on the shelf one a 2x7 the other 3.5x10 put the 3.5x10 on ..

I have a Leupold 2.5-8x on my Ruger African 22 Hornet I’m taking to Namibia this summer for small game: Duiker, Grysbok, Klipspringer, Jackal & Caracal(Lynx).

I will use this rifle in the future also for Honey Badger, Serval & Genet.

I've settled on Leupold V8 6x with the fine tapered reticle. It gives quick acquisition and I'm still able to get down on pinheads when the opportunity comes along. I like the smaller size of the V8 and smaller 2-7 on the smaller framed Hornets.

I have an old "winchester" branded 1.5-5 X shotgun scope on mine.

It works well for the use I make of it. I do think the rifle is capable of better accuracy than I can get out of the scope at longer distances (It has a very thick reticle and I think the max magnification is closer to 3-4X than the labeled 5) but its minute of 'coon or groundhog to about 75 yards which is what I use it for.

VX2 4-12 on my Ruger #1 Hornet

I ended up using what I had laying around, a Leupold 1.75 to 6 heavy duplex that did not work out on my CZ550 in 9.3x62. Needless to say, not the best scope for a 22 Hornet, but it will have to do.
