I wonder what our readership has to say about the savage model 10 predator rifle. I just got one and I have to say, I have fallen in love with it!
Do we have anyone about who reloads for this rifle? I'm having some interesting results with figuring out an overall length for my ammo. I'm thinking it may have a pretty tight throat, bore Ect...
Anyhow, I would like to talk with someone who has expierance with this rifle.

i had one. bought it in a fit of remorse after loosing a crat. Accurate rifle, but my nice blued steel and walnut stocked guns kept throwing it out of the cabinet onto the floor. had to sell it to save its life

This is the load I use in my Savage Predator Model 10. This
has work extremely well in several guns, one being a friends Rem 700 custom.

55gr SBK over 37.1gr RL15, CCI BR2's, OAL to Ogive 2.095 which is a .005 jump, avg. 3725fps from the 22" barrel.

The last 3 shot group before my gun went into the safe was .156"

...you know, that Mossy Oak "brush" or whatever they are calling that camo....it is not the easiest thing on the eye. That is a fact...
Now me, I like to take my rifle for brisk walks through forrests and open grasslands and show her to the coyote. Now that I think about it, coyote apparently don't care for that finish either.... A couple have thought it so ugly, they fell dead, right on the spot!
Secretly, sometimes while we are sitting around, taking a break from all that walking and making noises to attract the attention of the coyote;....sometimes I hear them sniggering.....
It's so disheartening that we just go home and shoot targets. The rifle does a great job there too!

....and another thing....
When I clean this rifle, I see small flakes of what appears to be the finish on the bolt and interior parts. I have the idea that I'm not the first person to come across this.
Is there anything to be done for this? Or is it as I suspect something that must be tolerated?

One thing for certain; when you mention Savage on this forum, all the losers who paid way too much for their "eye candy" rifles, will tell you that the Savage is ugly, the trigger is bad, the stock is bad, but none will tell you that their out of the box rifle will shoot better. Heavy trigger? for $90 bucks you can get a rifle basix, and I guarantee you that is far less than the differential cost between the Savage and their fancy rifles.

I reload 37 gr. H-380 behind a 50 gr Hornady v max and get < 1/2 in groups at 100 yds., and 1 1/2 in at 200 yds.

Not bad for a "bargain rifle with a modified factory trigger.

If it was a Model 10 Predator, it would have an Accutrigger. If your friend’s Model 10 did not have an Accutrigger, it was not a Predator. Model 10 rifles built before 2009, could have either trigger, but after 2009 only the Accutrigger was offered for all models. Unless it was a black plastic stocked promo rifle, (Sportsman’s Warehouse, BiMart, Wal-Mart, etc.) a Savage Axis (Cabela’s) or a Stevens and then it still wouldn't be a Model 10.

Rifle Basix has replacement triggers for all the popular, and some not so popular rifles made in the last ten+ years and they drop in. If for some reason you need less than 1 ½ lb. trigger pull from your Accutrigger, just order the Savage AccuTarget Trigger kit with springs and pull can be adjusted from around 1 ½ lbs. down to around 6 oz.

I personally sold several of the Model 10 Predators in the last year, in .223, .204 and .243. They are superbly accurate rifles right out of the box, and except for a little extra weight from the fat barrel, are pretty compact with good pointability. The customers that purchased them were very pleased with them.

Right on! The only people that I can seem to find who like the Savage rifles are people that actually own them. Now, hold on a second, I'm not being entirely obtuse here.
I find so many owners of this brand or another brand who swear by their rifles; and swear that Savage rifles are junk. Many, if not most, will admit that they have never shot, never mind owned a Savage!
And then there are those who base their biases on rifles they shot 35 years ago or what they have read from people who just know Savage can't make a rifle...even if they don't have one.
As for me, there are several different manufacturers currently occupying my gun safe. Of all the rifles I have, I most enjoy my Thompson Center and Savage Predator (both in 22-250) and a Winchester 22LR single shot rifle handed down from my Grandpa. Pop's old rifle is older than dirt, but still shoots as good as any modern made rifle.
Anyone would have a tough time talking me out of my Savages.

I have a Savage 110FP which I lightened the trigger pull on (per the instructions) and got it to the point where, when I closed the bolt, the gun fired (and NO, my finger was NOT on the trigger)! Backed it off a bit and it is now functioning and shooting VERY well!
I would make sure that you can easily chamber sized brass before you worry about OAL etc. I have found the Savage very forgiving in terms of chamber dimensions.
