NitromanI Saw New .264 Winnie At The Store
Yup, I didn't even know Winchester still chambered for this cartridge. A "pre-64" receiver with a 26" tube. Good looking rifle. Would look even better on my gun rack but my other half told me absolutely not. They're asking $599.00.
P.S. They have a .416 Remington Mag on the rack too. (907) 543-3221 if anyone interested. Swansons Hardware.

<LReynolds>Remington also made a special run of 264's in their 700 SS with 26" bbl. I know a gun shop here in Houston that has one, but I have no idea how many were made....LR

<LReynolds>I have always thought the 264 really needs a 26" bbl but you could also add some others to that list like 257 Wby, 7mmSTW, 300 Ultra Mag, etc. When Rem brought out the 264 in the Classic, I bought one and experimented with. I was able to reach about 3050 fps with 140g bullets which I thought was very disappointing. Also a box of 100g Win Factory loads that were advertised at 3700 fps only clocked at 3100 fps. My chronograph has taught me a lot especially the importance of a long barrel !!!!! I have since sold my 264 and built a 6.5-06. I can get 3000 fps with 140g bullets in its 25" bbl......LR

sdgunslingerI eyed one of those M-70 classics in .264 on my dealer's rack for several years , thinking eventually he would break down and I would be able to steal it , but some other chump came along and beat me to it---$430 !
I consoled myself by getting a late push feed M-70 in the same caliber . And after shooting it and loading it some , I think the need for a 26 inch barrel in this caliber is a little overblown . I am able to hit 3600 fps with 100 gr bullets and 3300 to 3400 with 120 s.
The 26 inch might be preferable , but it does work decently with 24 and the muzzle blast is not bad at all ..........

<Harry>Check out my site
www.hunters-hq.com and read about the pre 1972 Sako Deluxe 264 Mag.
This was the Sako / Redfield reps. sample rifle. Still has the Sako red ribbon and seal on the trigger guard.
It needs a home and a shooter!

Dr. LouHarry, does the 264 have a 24 or 26 inch barrel?
