wildboarHow much does your 25-06 hunting rifle weigh?
Hi, my just rebarreled Ruger M77/II 25-06 rifle weighs 3.55 Kg/7.83 lbs (without scope), a little heavy IMO, even if it's a 26" barrel. What is your opinion?
05 March 2009, 00:52
Henry HooverIf you have a 26 inch barrel it depends on the taper. Probably a #4 maybe even #5. Sounds about right to me.

buckoMine weighs 7.5 on the nose, with sling and scope and loaded.

wildboarIt's a Lothar Walther "#1200 lightweight sporter" countour, the second slimmest available in 26".

Ingvar J. KristjanssonMine weighs 3.6 kg. without scope...so it's about 4.2 - 4.3 kg. ready to go !

Mke / TxI guess mine are heavy weights, one a factory BDL weighs 10lbs on the money, less ammo, wearing a Fajan laminate. The newer one, which is custom is pushing 11.5 and has a HS Precision stock, and a 28" Broughton 5C #4 Heavy Sporter tube on it.

MoorepowerJust curious Ingvar, what kinds of game do you hunt in Iceland?
05 March 2009, 05:07
miles58Almost 11 lbs with the scope.
Remington 700 Sendero w/26 inch fluted stainless and a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x42 in Warne QDs. Add the weight of the bipod and it's getting close to where I need a gun bearer.

LuckyduckerMine is a tang safety M77 Ruger with the varmint weight barrel on it. At least that is what I think Ruger called it back then. I have never weighed it but it is too &%(%$## heavy for my liking. The older I get the less I like packing around a heavy rifle, but I gave away my Tikka T3 Lite 300WSM to my son and I don't begrudge that although I would sure love to have another lite rifle.

MickinColo9 1/2 pounds. I have no problem with it's weight. But I haven’t weighed it with the bipod and sling, it may be a little heavier than that.
It's the second from the left.

joe25/06Mick, I hate to see a guy forced to have that many sorry looking rifles. I can send you my address, and you can get rid of one or two down my way. Nice looking #1's

Thanks Joe, I’ll keep that in mind.

buffybrMine weighs 9 1/2 lbs with a 6x Leupold, sling, and 4 rounds in the magazine. It might have started life an once or so heavier when it was a .25-05 Mark X barreled action, but before I ever fired it, I had a gunsmith rechamber it to .257 AI. I stocked it with fancy walnut from Fajen.
It's been to the top of quite a few sheep mountains, and is my favorite for deer and pronghorns.

416RigbyHunterMy Ruger 77MKII weighs 9lbs, scoped. It has the 'magnum' contour barrel and is 24".
I don't find it a problem, I'm used to carrying rifles of 10lbs or more.
On the other hand my Kimber is so light that I don't even know it's there.
Cheers.

johnnyappleseed55My winchester 70 sporter 25-06 weighs more than my remington 700 mountain rifle 270 but it's more accurate

white eagleI like Mickincolo have a Ruger #1 that weights in around 9 1/2 #
I use mine for mainly for deer sniping so weight is a non issue but I have carried it on a few coyote hunting trips
That btw has to be one of the most accurate rifles I own

Ingvar J. KristjanssonMoorepower ! Sorry for the late response but I just came home from a nice weekend in Boston !.....regarding your question, for big game we hunt Reindeer (or caribou) and varmint we shot the arctic fox. Unfortunately we don’t have many big game species because we are an Island in the north of the Atlantic ocean but for the few lucky ones there is the occasional Polar Bear..

There was an attempt to introduce Muskox from Greenland in the 40’s and 50’s (I think) but that ended a few years later when the hole herd died from some kind of disease...but that’s another story !

onefunzr224" barrel Colt\Sauer 25-06 Rem with Leupold 4.5x14 scope, unloaded weighs 9 pounds 6 ounces. Not a mountain rifle but its weight didn't drag me down stalking Kalahari springboks in Namibia.
10 March 2009, 21:24
<slancey>9 lbs. 2 oz., unloaded without sling.

alf1960My Kimber Sonora weighs in at 9lbs 6 oz (bare gun). Its a little heavy to lug around but it makes up for it the way it shoots. I`ve never been the steadiest and the xtra weight really helps my accuracy.
My one scoped with bipod and sound moderator weighs 17 1/2lbs

I thought the living room love seat made a great gun rack but my wife came home and disagreed. It’s funny how women are like that.
