Re: recco on semi rifle
DSA makes the FAL available in .243 and .260. I have not shot one, mine is in .308 and I love it!

well how about this then

besides an m4 type setup and the mini-14 what other .223 rifles is there?

are the mini-14 or the mini-14 ranch (the ranch is just an updated version right?) are those good rifles?

Raider, If you add deer hunting and cheap ammo to the mix IMO you should try an FAL or HK 91. AR's are accurate and great fun to shoot but IMHO the 223 is an very limited deer cartridge.
The HK's recoil a little sharper but not bad and are easy to mount a scope on. They are awesomely reliable.
The FAL are sweet and smooth shooting but can be a little more trouble mounting scopes unless you buy a specific scope ready version.
With all the clones available you can probably find one at a reasonable price. Good luck let us know what you end up with and how you like it.......DJ

Never heard of a semi in 22-250. Believe an HK 630 in 223 is a very nice rifle if you can find one. Have talked to a guy who had one and he is most enthusiastic about it. I have handled the HK 770 and like it very much. I had a mini -14 and traded it off because it was not as accurate as I wished. They can be made accurate but it costs. You might prefer the Browning semi auto in 243. Folks I know like it. You do not say where you are located. Even if they made a semi in 22-250,cost of shooting it would br high.223 is much cheaper. Hope this helps. I shoot MIA in 308.

The Browning BAR comes in .243, I'd choose it over the Remington.

It kind of a fruit salad that you are asking us to compare.
I can't really comment on the BAR or Remington.
If you want a semi-auto 243 or 22-250 you could look ar AR-10's or their cheaper Eagle Arms brothers.
They make them in several calibers and I don't think it is unreasonable to obtain one in 22-250.
Expect that rifle to cost close to or over $1000.
I have a Bushmaster M4 type rifle and I shoot it less than my bolt actions.
If I were to buy my first AR over again I'd go for a 20" barrel with an A3 upper.
A 20" has the sight radius that would make MOA with irons possible and will have the accuracy and velocity to make a scope rather enjoyable.
You can always buy an M4 upper down the road.
