<Jordan>What is a .25-20??
Is the .25-20 a centerfire or rimfire? If centerfire, where can a guy get cases and reloading data? Is the cartridge good for anything?
Thanks,
Jordan

Dr. DucI am assuming you mean the 25-20WCF. It is a necked down 32-20 firing an 86gr bullet @1500fps. The ammo is still loaded by Remington and Winchester. It is a nice small game cartridge-turkeys where legal. There have been other 25-20's but this is the only one still in use.
It was originally chambered in the Win 92 but Remington made a nice slide repeater (Model 25) that is very accurate. I have a 92 and a 25 and both shoot to @1" at 50 yds with open sights. Kimber also made a limited run in the 80's.
The loaded ammo is available from Ammoman.com for $159.00 for 500. The cases are aavailable from Midway, Grafs or Widners.

<Don Martin29>There is also a 25-20 Single Shot which is a longer case. Some nice varmint wildcats were made from this like the R-2 Risley and the Lovell version.

EremicusMine is a Marlin 1894 Classic. It will shoot the Speer 75 gr. FP at about 2000 fps., and print groups just over a 1/2 inch at 50 yds.
Generally it is considered good for anything up to coyote size.
They are alot of fun. Three and one-half times more powerful than the .22 LR. E

LeftoverdjI have a cute Savage b/a in .25-20 WCF from c. 1920. Nice quiet 125 yard varmint gun. I got it scoped with a little ingenuity.
Mostly I shoot groundhogs with 75 grain spitzers at about 2000 fps, but it is a superlative squirrel gun w/ 65 grain FN cast bullets at about 1400 fps.

MarkIt is a great little cartridge, good for everything from rabbits to coyotes up to about 100 yards. Think of it halfway between a 30-30 and a 22LR.

W. WilsonIn 1912 the world record whitetail buck was shot with a 25-20WCF by James Jordan (neat, huh?) and the record stood till '94, I think.

LeftoverdjBut he hit that buck eleventy seven times.
I love the .25-20, but i would not shoot a deer with one in other circumstances than I would with a .22 mag.

YukonerI remember reading about the Jordan buck many years ago and that it was shot with a 25-20.
I am pretty sure there was world record bighorn killed in Alberta many years ago with a 25-20. The ram ended up being lost in a house fire.

<Rogue 6>I shot my first buck a little 3pt (3x3 with eyeguards) with my grand dads mdl 92. It has a lyman tang sight on it and a long heavy octagon barrel. During the depression it fed alot of people. The old timers in my family think a 30-06 is unjustified in power, for anything but elk. When I hunt with them I use a 308, 300 sav or 30-30. Don't you dare show up with a 300 mag anything, let alone a 270win.

<eldeguello>It is a .25 caliber cartridge that holds 20 grains of black powder. There are several, which differ due to case shape, but that have the same powder capacity.
