<azmike>model 54 win 30-30 ammo
I just bought a Sears Model 54 win 30-30. I am using this for varmint hunting. i would like to be able to reach out to about 200 yards max. What would you suggest for a grain weight, or any other things that would help. Also, I wonder what kind of open sights to allow me better sight for that distance, or is there a scope to fit infront of the receiver. Being that it's for Varmint hunting, I don't think that a peep site will work. something like a red dot site maybe. thanks for any imput

<Kimmo E>Try a scoutrifle mounted scope(handgun scope)
If you are a reloader a sierra varmint 110gr bullet might do it !?

LeftoverdjMike,
You have a cheapie Win 94 made for Sears. There are side mounts available, but it probably is not worth doing.
Your best bet is to sell that rifle to a deer hunter and buy something a little more suitable for varmints.
NEF in .243 or .25-06 might be a good bet. You could get almost enough to buy a new one out of your 30-30.
