Has anyone ever used Superior Ammunition for this calibre? I just picked up a little 6,5 Mqannlicher Schoenauer and want to shoot the 160 grs RN

Congrats on your "new" M-S in 6.5x54 M-S! I can't tell you about Superior Ammo's offerings, but I've handloaded for my M-S carbine with Hornady's 160-grain RNs with good success.

Good luck with that Rifle. I am part of the 6.5 mm crowd and also the "older European" Mauser and Schonauer stuff. I hope you post your results on line from this season if you use it.

I was once told about Ruger making their RSI in a 6.5 x 54 once, and have been looking for one every since. ( maybe just have to get one rebarreled?)

I have heard this too about the Ruger, I think this is one of those gun myths.

I am in the process of getting the ammo now.

Hope to shoot it next weekend

6,5x54 MS is constantly offered by Hirtenberger, sporadically by RWS, and very rarely by Norma (in the 1990s, they made a run of unprimed brass for the USA, on a wholesaler's order).

Heritage:

I found out where I read about the " Special run" Ruger supposedly did on 6.5 x 54s in the RSI model.

Right out of the Sierra load manual on the cartridge! They have load info for it. Not the most recent addition, the last one before that one.

Of course one can just down load their 6.5 x 55 for the same specs. However, I have seen those Mannlicher in other calibers, and they are a class little rifle. I am envious. Good luck with it.

We have talked to the folks at Hirtenberger with no avail. The Norma and the RWS stuff is here and there. I have been told you can make them out of 6,5 Carcano. But the folks at Superior say they can do it. The little 6,5 is sure a neat little round.

When they will answer the phone it is a question they dodge. We have sent several emails to them without any solid responses

I have used Superior Ammo in my 450 No2 and in my 9,3x74R. It is very good stuff. I have met them at the Dallas Safari Show...They are good people, their ammo is top notch. The 6.5x54MS is the ultimate classic calibre. Read "THE RIFLE ITS DEVELOPMENT FOR BIG-GAME HUNTING" by S.R. Truesdell. Anybody who was anybody used it for all manner of game.

I do know Old Western Scrounger does carry 6.5 x 54. Also I believe it is Midway that carries some brass made in Australia for discontinued calibers.

Also check out Graf & Sons.com out of Mexico Missouri. I know they are carrying a 268 bore diameter 6.5 bullet made exclusively for them by Hornady. They are also carrying brass for a few different calibers such as the 6.5 Carcano. Contact them, as I am sure they will be expanding the line for other older calibers.
They just need to hear from owners of an interest.

good luck! [Razz] [Roll Eyes] [Cool]

Huntington's still lists 6,5x54 Hirtenberger brass as available at $70/100. See their Hirtenberger web page.

Heritage,

Is that a full stock Mannlicher MC or a half stock that you have? If it is a half stock I would be very interested to know what the rear open sight looks like as I am interested in one over here. It does not however have a rear 2 blade folding sight but one with a variable slide rather like a Brno 22 rimfire.

Good luck with it!

I shot the little Mannlicher this weekend with some very good results. After a zero at 100 yds with 139 grs Norma ammo, single load only, I shot about an 1 1/2 to 2" group on the range. The accuracy tightend up to about 1 1/2 " at 100. I then went over to the steel plates at 150 yds and 200. When I did my part the plates were dead. I am very pleased with this gun. I will start loading 160 grs rn next weekend. The sights are a fixed blade with another folding leaf. Mine has a scope too, a 4X Nickl with a post.

Nickel made special 1-4x20 scopes for Mannlicher with smaller ocular diameter. You cant put another scope in the rings as they to low to allow to lift the bolthandle. Rather nice combination, as you shoot wiht full stock contact despited the old crooked german stock.

Sounds like that carbine is shooting great. You might get better performance with 160s, but I've been told by knowledgeable collectors that some carbines, for some reason, don't do well with the 160s. What's next, doing a Karamojo Bell and trying for a brain shot with it? [Razz]

I also have a 6.5X54 MS and got some brass made by Horneber from Huntingtons. It is a nice accurate cartridge and alot of fun in those old Mannlichers.-Rob
