Will this bullet do?

I have a 22-250 with a 1-14 twist barrel. I have a chance to pick up about two thousand hornady 55 grain full metal jackets for a song. Is this an optimal weight for shooting paper with that twist?

you must be new to the world of 22 caliber centerfires...

those 55 grain fmj's will do more than fine..

in a 22.250, the most accurate load I have ever gotten out of those 55 gr FMJ bullets has been a charge of 32.5 grains of H4895... MV is about 3450 fps...but they are deadly accurate in my 22.250s... the FMJs dont tend to be as accurate as the 55 gr SPs tho...

I shoot them out of my 1:14 twist Deuce ahead of 24.5gr of IMR4895 for about 3100 fps. They stabilize just fine and accuracy is in the .5 MOA range. Like Seafire said, other bullets do tend to be more accurate, but the 55gr FMJs make fine range fodder.

I slow them down to about 2900 fps fired from any centerfire .22 to use in turkey season. I much prefer to use a rifle to shoot turkeys (legal here in Texas). It seems much more sporting and dignified than bowling them over with a blast from shotgun (however, no disrespect to those who perfer otherwise). The FMJ's usually make nice, small, neat holes through a turkey that spoils little meat.

I have a friend who took a bunch of 55 FMJ's on a prairie dog hunt. Although not what I'd recommend, they seemed to kill dogs surprisingly efficiently.

Yes. I am pretty new to 22 caliber centerfires. I've always had, 27 and 30 caliber stuff. Recently bought a .243 as well.
