Browning A-Bolt in 260 Rem
I picked up a Browning A-Bolt in 260 a month ago at a gun show in St. Paul. The older fellow that had it said it shot pretty well, but the high gloss stock was too pretty to hunt with so he ordered a synthetic with the Dura touch. By the time it got to him he lost interest and put it away, for years. He included it and as soon as I got it home I changed it into it's "play clothes" and brought it to the pit with some 100 grain B-Tips I have loaded for the 700. It was still wearing the Leupold VXII 2-7 it came with and the first 3 shots clover leafed with the last two of the 5 stretching the group to .78! I think Browning should go back and re-think dis-continueing the 260 they seem to have had a good thing going.

tu2 Yes they are. Very accurate out of the box. I never understood why more A-Bolts are not seen in camp?

A friend of mine has an A-bolt chambered in 300WSM and it is a real tack driver. I think the reason these rifles aren't more popular is because after market accessories aren't as readily available as Rem or Savage, etc.

My A Bolt is very accurate as well. I think a lot of mine.

I have a LH A-Bolt that I had re-barreled to 260. It shoots better than I can.

I had an A bolt hunter back in the late 80s. It was a 7mm mag and it shot great. Sadly I moved back to the mid west where I could not hunt with a Rifle. I couldn't afford to buy a shotgun at the time so I had to sell off the Browning to a fellow who was moving out west. I sure miss that rifle and would love to get another one.

I love them too. My theory is that they are just enough more expensive than a Remington, Winchester, Ruger, or Savage that they don't sell nearly as well. Hence why we don't see more of them.

I find them fugly as hell, but the ones I've shot, have shot well. My lefty neice has one as her only rifle in 7/08.

I had a a 7= 08 A bolt stalker with a boss tuner. It would put 3 in one hole, by the time you got done with a 10 shot string it was gaining 3 moa at 500 yards. On the ram target it was bad, the barrel would heat up and vertical string. I sold it to a hunting buddy with expanation why I was selling it. He just loves it, has never had to take a second shot on game.

Great hunting rifle poor competion piece.

I had a Medallion in 25-06.It didn't fit me right and since I was uncomfortable shooting it I flogged it.Now if it had of been in 260 I wood have restocked it.

I love my a-bolts too, love the detachable mag, and handling, it is one of the lightest factory rifles at the time when I bought my 30-06 composite stalker in 1992. Actually price wise they are a competitve with remingtons, rugers, winchesters and even savages now. The biggest knocks I've heard on them is the thin whippy barrel profile and the bolt is sleeved and not one piece. I've had no issues with my mine and but the timney replacement spring in all three.

Congradulations on a great find
