NBHunterV-max or Ballistic Tip?
What one will performe better on 25lb+ critters? They both make 40-55gr bullets so what weight and brand would YOU use out of a .220 Swift?

ZedmanAfter having shot a 220 Swift for over 30 years and having used both of those bullets in 55 grain wgt. I switches to a 6mm Remington with a 70 grain Speer TNT and for really long range, over 400 yards I use a 6mm Ackley Improved with 87 grain V-Max. Since switching I have not lost a single coyote and that was 3 years ago. I have a passion for the Swift and It is accurate and a real killer but not always where you could find 'em. With the 6mm's they are DRT (Dead Right There!) Good Hunting, "Z"

<Eric J>Never heard of a well hit critter living to tell about it. At 4000fps+......no one will ever know.

NBHunterHere in NB you cannot use a centerfire caliber over .224 during varmint seasons so the swift is my only choice for now.

Rob1SGI would try doing a search under favorite loads and see what it has to offer.

DesertRamI'm in a whole different velocity bracket, but my "little" .223 likes the 50 grain V-maxes and they work really well on our ~25 lb. desert coyotes. Well placed shots rarely exit. On of my hunting buddies shoots a pretty hotly loaded .22-250 with the 55 grainers with similar results, albeit a few more messy ones. Try the V-maxes first, they're usually cheaper and shoot just as good.

YardbirdI love my Nosler Ballistic Tips, but that's only because my gun didn't like the V-Max. I'd say use whatever shoots best in your gun, don't worry about the name on the box, they're both like a 4000 fps hand grenade.
