250-3000 deer cartridge???

Just picked up a Rem model 7 with a light contour
Pac-Nor in 250-3000 20" barrel. Bead Blast blue
with Warne rings. Need a stock in youth stock.
1 in 10 twist should make a nice light deer rifle,
wish it was LH!

Did I mention a Log house on 65 acres back boundried by the Clark Fork river and 17 horses too? But she didn't have to rip off that rifle on top of everything else I just rolled over on I still have that .250 on my list of firearms I sure wish I had back. "lovely girl".

I think the "Bob" is a waste of space.
In a short action it's no better than the 250 Savage, just burns more powder to do the same thing.
In a long action it can't compete with the 25-06.
If you want a short, light, handy rifle, the 250 Savage is the one to have.
If you need more, then the 25-06 is the goto.

I think denagrading the .257 is just a bit much.

Hasn't stopped me from building a couple dozen Bobs on those long 98 actions. It works, period.

In fact....the .257 Roberts gives up very little to the larger .25-06 and is very well suited to many of the Mauser actions! The .257 Roberts is a very under rated round. It's a very fine deer cartridge and a better pronghorn cartridge that doubles as a prairie dogger and just about any varmint shoot one may encounter.

In a long action why not go with the 25-06 it fits as well if not better than the "Bob" and gets 2-300 more fps?
And from all the studying I've done the difference between the 250 Savage and the "Bob is zilch. Same bullets same fps. The "Bob" Imp gains a bit, 50-100 fps.
I do agree that some cartridges do have a lot of nostalgia.
But why is the "Bob" a great cartridge pushing a 100 gr bullet to 3000 fps second and the 250 Savage a poor cartridge when it pushes the same bullet at the same 3000 fps?
Lots of "Bob" fans denegrate the 250 Savage, then why can't I denegrate the "Bob"?

Ok, how did this go from a 250 savage thread to lets bash the bob? If your going to compare the 250 and the 257 to the 25-06. My 257 vickery improved with 100 gr bullets is faster than published 25-06 loads and that is not even close to max loads.
The 250-3000 has been killing deer ever since it was introduced and will till the end of the world.And there's really no need for further discussion. The 250 just plain works..

I have a Marlin XS7 that has been rebarreled to 250 Savage AI. It shoots 100 gr. TTSX's pretty good at 3130 fps. It's still going around 2000 fps at 500 yds. Pretty good round for deer and antelope I think.

I was trying to make a point. I used the 250 Savage vs the 257 Roberts as an example.
I often see arguements about one cartridge vs another on here and in most cases the differences are not enough to matter in the feild. 7-08 vs 308, 280 Rem vs 30-06. Any of them vs 270 Win.
Use what you want, justify it as what you want, not because it kills better.
It's not about FPS or Ft/Lbs, it's putting the bullet in the right place. A slow hit kills much better than a fast miss.

Well, this old coddger thinks it's because they want to have the lastest wis-bang fashion.

Years ago I used on of the FN sporters in .250 SWav. (bought it for the then wife to learn to shoot and hunt, but that's a long story, "Kicks too hard".) I used it on some antelope and deer, "just because" as compared to my .300 Wea. Mag, .300 H&H or .264 Win. Dead right there, maybe not the dramatic knock down of the Mag.s, but DRT just the same.

I nearly bought another one last year, but decided I had to many now that ai should be selling rather than buying.

I think it's a fine little round even if you guys born since Kennedy don't think so.
