Donald NelsonAnyone loading for the Remington VTR in .223
Just bought a new Remington VTR chambered in .223.
Being it is has a 1 in 9 twist like my Ar-15's I am guessing 55 and 60 grain Vmax bullets should shoot well in it. I have only loaded fmjs for my AR's so I was hoping someone here might have some experience with varmint style bullets for this twist rate.

tacksmackerI have the xcr compact, 20" 1x9 , 55s do extremely well. I have tried both Nos. BT and Berger 52s and they are deadnuts tight shooting bullet. V-max didn't fair as well.

Donald NelsonThanks I will get the Noslers I like them anyhow. I never cared for Varget but I might try Benchmark.

Donald NelsonGroups are tightening up. Got BL-C 2 and sierra 55 grainer's down to between 3 shot 7/16ths and 5 shot 7/8ths groups.
50 grain Vmax and BL-C 2 down to 3 shots in 3/8 and 5 shots in 1 inch. Think this group could be better I think I threw the last shot.
Now I have 55 grain NBT's and 60 grain Vmax and Benchmark to try also.
Although my 223's are not the VTR's, I get exceptional accuracy with several different 50/52 gn bullets: Both Bergers, Nosler's 50 BT,
Nosler's 52 HPBT, Sierra's 50 gn Blitz, and Speer's 50 TNT and their 52 gn HP.
TAC is the best powder I've tried, although others shoot extremely well too, like N-133, 748, H-322, H-335 and IMR-4198.
I've read many good postings about the 223 VTR accuracy, never anything bad.

Donald NelsonShot some of the loads using the Benchmark powder today. IT was a hit! 5 shots with the 50 grain Vmax in 15/16ths and 4 shots with 60 grain Vmax in 7/16ths. I am sure the 5th shot was my fault. I am more than happy with the 50 grain vmax load as the tightest three were in 7/16ths and centered between the two wider shots. I may try BLC2 for the 60 grain bullets and I still have the 55 grain Noslers to try. But the rest of the box of 50 grain Vmax will be loaded up with the Benchmark. I am ready to hunt!

Good to hear that as I plan on giving it a try in my .308 also.
