Thomas Jonesnother great roberts load !
I found another great load for the .257 roberts. The bullet is a nosler 120 grain partition. The powder is RL-22.
The max load from the Aliant web site is 46.2 grains and it shows a 48000 Cup and nearly 3000 , fps from a 24 inch tube.
My load is a bit hotter ill let you decide how hot to shoot in your rifle.
I was very happy to see the .40 and .60 inch groups I got off the bench at 100 yards.
This from a 20 inch featherweight ruger.
I hope my short tube will not cost me too much speed I am hoping for somthing over 2800, we will see !
It aught to thump any mule deer walking at 300 yards and prbobly a caribu too !

JacobiteI just happen to have some R22. Maybe when I start working loads for my .257AI I will look into this one. With added room and a 26 inch tube I should get 3000 with no problem I would think.

With DP 85 it would be a done deal.

TJ how about PM'ing me with your RL22 load and 120NP's? I have had little luck getting the 120's to shoot in my Ruger Ultralight. I am trying 115's now.
Post modified: My Alliant book shows 44 grains as the max load for 120 gr. bulets and RL22.
Modified again!: The website does say 46.5 for + P loads. I would still be interestd in your load.
Peter.

tom ga hunterJohn Barsness's 1st "loads that works" had 48.5gr of rl 22 @ 2,950 fps(?) I tried the load in a 24" m700 clasic & got in the upper dend of the 2,700 fps with so-so accuracy. Hope you have better lunk than I did.

Thomas JonesOnly 2700 ?
Well I hope I do a little better than that. I got about equal accuracy in the same ruifle with the same bullet and using IMR-4350. I got 2720 fps.
That aint a bad load mind you but I want 2800 or more if I can get it !

woodhickI've been loading 48 or 50 grains of RL22 behind the 120 Hornady HP for years....48 gr in Federal cases & 50 gr in W-W +P brass....Outstanding accuracy and approaches 3050 fps out of my 24" pre 64s....

Thomas JonesThanks wood chick !
I just bought a new can of RL-22 and hope to squeez off a few rounds this weekend. I,ll squirt a couple over the chroney with 48.5 grains and if it prooves a little slower than I like I will go up a half grain and see where I am then ...tj3006
