Savage 93R17 Magazine Problems
Does anyone else out there have a Savage 93 in 17HMR, and if so, are you also having magazine issues? Mine won't seat a fully loaded (5 rounds) magazine. It spits all the rounds out of the magazine and into the mag well. I can reliably fit it in with 3 rounds and sometimes 4. It's even a little finicky going in empty and it takes a little work to get it fully seated. Anyone?

I have one with the stainless bull barrel & grey laminated stock (93R17BVSS I think). I have only had it for 6 months, & I don't have too many rounds through it, but the mag functions OK. Initially, it was difficult to get 5 rounds into the magazine - putting the first few rounds in was easy, & the 4th & 5th required a bit of force, but after loading it several times, it seemed to loosen up. As far as inserting the mag, sometimes a little wiggling around is needed - again, that seems to have gotten smoother after being used for awhile, whether because it is "wearing in" & smoothing out or because I'm getting more familiar with it, i don't know.
I like the rifle - it looks & shoots great.

Yes, I've shot mine a lot for about 6 mos now without any issues. It is little harder to fully seat a full mag on a closed bolt than open but that's kinda common in rimfires. Never had the mag spit rounds under any condition and don't have a problem loading 5. Sounds like a bad mag?

Thanks, Tate. Yeah, I guess I'm sending the mag back then. Too bad. I'd like to shoot it some more this upcoming weekend. Looks like I'll have to wait. I hope Savage has good customer service!

I've got a 93 in 22WMR and the mag spit the rounds out only after I left the mag loaded for a prolonged period of time. When new it worked fine.

Well, the consensus here and on the small game thread is that it is a bad magazine. One reply said when he called Savage for extra mags they asked for his serial number. I guess there is a difference and perhaps mine may be mismatched somehow. I will call them this week to find out more. Thanks everyone for your replies. What a great forum!

Have you tried to just get another magazine and send the bad one bad to Savage and ask for a replacement or repair?

they'd probably just replace it...

I had a Ruger 77/22 Magnum that went back to the factory for feeding issues 4 times over the course of a year, before they just replaced the darn thing..
