The gunshop near my house is selling a custom mauser in 6,5x68.
To what other caliber it can be compared (25.06, 308,....)?
Recoil, blast, etc?
It will be a good option for pigs and deers?
I already have a 300wm.

I believe it would be on par with your 300 win mag, albeit with lighter bullets, and perhaps higher velocities. It would be an outstanding choice for long range shots on deer. I'd stick with the 300 mag for pigs. I'd also say, unless there is a lifetime supply of brass, you may want to reconsider, as getting brass for it could be a challenge.

Thanks Paul, I think you're right, maybe I was just looking for an excuse for buying a new rifle.

I think it's the Nosler manual that presents data for the 6.5x06 and discusses the European 6.5x68 which is based on the .270 Win case without any other alterations. It's a little faster and flater shooting than the wonderful old .270. By any measure, a very efficient and appropriate round for deer sized game.

The most similar standard cartridge you will find is probably the 264 winchester magnum.
The 6,6x68 uses the same case as the 8x68, necked down to 6,5 or .254" mm.
The both shoot flatter than Kansas and being over bore cartridges, they are both hard on barrels.
In the hands of an efficient marksman and using premium bullets in 125-140 grain range,they are both adequate for game up to the size of elk, though I would feel more comfortable limiting its use to red deer or similar.

Montero is right, the 6.5X68 is a "beltless magnum", using the same case as the 8X68S, which is comparable ballistically to the 8mm Remington Magnum. Therefore the 6.5X68 is AT LEAST EQUAL to the .264 Winchester, and maybe a little more than equal. Should be a helluva round, if you can find some Boxer-primed cases to load. (Maybe The Old Western Scrounger has some RWS brass.)

The 6.5x68mm is a fine flat shooting calibre and is a .264 (6.5mm) necked down 8x68S, which was also introduced at a similar time (1938) by RWS.

The cartridge will strike like lightning on pigs and deer. I recommend you use a 125 gr (3400 fps) or 140 gr (3000 fps) projectile (eg Nosler, X Point).

It is very flat shooting and is the metric equivalent of the .264 Winchester Magnum. It is rimless bottlenecked cartridge and does not have a belt like the 264 WM. Reloading info regarding powder weights are largely comparable for both cartridges as are velocities.

RWS loads a 93 gr SP projectile at close to 4000 fps for chamois.

A 6.5x68mm rifle should have a 26 inch barrel. Anything less and you will sacrfice the velocity this cartridge generates.

Recoil would be considerably less than the 300 Win Mag and blast less than a 7mm Rem Mag.
