tom ga hunterdo in need a 222?
My gunsmith has a nib late 70's m700bdl in 2232 Renington. $500.00 out the door, I already have 2 223 but have long wanted a 222. Pass or buy?

butchloci'm not much of a 700 fan, but they are good accurate rifles. you really do need a triple deuce. its the ideal round for lighter or blitz bullets. inherent accuracy is much better than a 223 due to the long neck. in the 50's and early 60's the 222 was THE benchrest round

HankinColoradoIMHO everyone should own a .222 There, I said it! You say you've always wanted one, there's your answer. Will it do anything the .223 won't? Probably not, but in my book it's a classic.

crowrifleThe deuce is a classic and I have never met one that did not shoot well. I sold a model 722 a few years back that I would love to get back.

craigsterI have an early 40X (722) single shot and an also early 700 in 222. Both are very accurate. With these rifles, I have little need for a 223.

stillbeemanI have a 222 in a model 788. How's that for a classic. I wisht I didn't. Or I wisht Rem had made the XR-100 in .222. I also have the Classic in .223. All of them are accurate to a fault. And so, I can't bring myself to make the logical choice.
You have to be extra careful to keep your ammo seperated. It is possible to chamber and fire a .222 round in a .223 rifle. Don't ask me how I know.
Yes I will agree as I just had Jim Kobe pillar bed an older model 722 for me . He did a superb job of it !.
The only problem is I'm a lefty and it's a righty .
How ever it never stopped me from shooting the other righty's I own !.
I'm redoing ,refinishing the stock as we type .
Yesterday I polished all the metal and reblued to a richer deep blue almost black blue .
I like it now much better than before .

StonecreekDo you have a .222? No? Then you NEED a .222 by definition!
You will find little actual difference in field performance between it and your .223s. However, as one shooter put it when compared with a .223, "Either can be made about as accurate as the other, but you have to work to find a load that shoots poorly in a .222, and you have to work to find a load that shoots as well in a .223".

vapodogI got rid of my .222 Sako as I was continually gettingthe brass mixed withthe .223 while prairie dog shooting.
The .222 is one of the finest cartridges ever produced but the .223 is a better round and if you have a .223 then let someone else have the .222!

ireload2I always thought the .223 was spawn of the devil.
Why split the middle when both the two .222s had it covered?

Claret_DabblerThe .222rem must be the most prefectly balanced sub 250 yard small game and vermin round.
I thought of changing mine to a .223 recently - just because I can get a Sauer 202 in .223 but not .222. Just couldn't bring myself to do it - felt like heresy.

Hi,it's a regular Sako 75 hunter in 222 dropped into a McMillan Sako 75 varmint stock. The barrel has plenty of clearance but when I rebarrel it will have a heavier contour. As usual with the 222 accuracy is excellent!

AtkinsonI love the little 222, its just a sweetheart, all my kids killed their first deer with it and I have shot deer with it, but mostly its my favorite varmint gun...
I also like the .223 and it has a bit more poop if you think you need it and has the advantage of cheap ammo, free if you know a cop or Border patrolman or two...
