Marc_Stokeldfavorite .257 Roberts 100gr load?
Well, as much as I hate posts in multiple forums, I am in a time crunch and am not sure how many folks read the reloading forum every day. So please forgive this double post.
Finished up the roberts with brake and it is nice to shoot with Winchester 117 +P factory loads. Fired 2 rounds while wearing my full body nrace and it was OK, actually better than a 7.5# .223 with a 1/2" Pachmeyer pad with a 1" Limbsaver over it. hate brakes, but everything was really hurting my back.
Here is my post fromt he reloading forum:
not sure if this should go in this for or the small bore forum, so I will try here first.(hate to see duplicate psots in forums, but may do that with this question, so ple;ase forgive me if I do!) I am looking for your favortie .257 Roberts load with a 100 gr. bullet. I am goingt o first try the 100gr Partition and will then try the 100gr Ballistic Tip and E Tip, in that order, if the Partition doesn't shoot.
i did a powder check last night and have 12 kinds of powder that would work to some degree or another in the Roberts. If I can get an actual 2900-3000 from a 21" barrel that would be great, but a little slower won't cause me to lose sleep. I imagine 2800 would be ablout the same. I have a muzzle brake on the rifle and wanted some gas to go through the holes.
oh, virgin Winchester +P brass and WLR's will be used.
Thanks!

plainsman456I have used 47.0 grs of rl-19 with 100 gr bullets in 3 rifles chambered for the Roberts with good success.
Most of my load work for this one was with 75-90 gr bullets.Hopes this helps get you started.
Oh,remember to work up in your rifle.

trouthunterdjThe classic load for a 100gr in a 257 Roberts is 46 gr of H4350. My 722 tends to like 46.4 gr where my custom Mauser likes 46.0 gr. My 722 gets 3150 chronographed with a 100gr. partion. Deadly.

buffalobreathMarc, I have done very little reloading for the 257 Roberts. my friend brought me over a Rem M 30 a month or so ago. I purchased some brass and loaded up with IMR 4350 a bunch of 100 gr Hornadie spire points. with my old eyes i got it on the paper and the first group with the 4X scope was barely over one-half in. For a gun made in the 30s and my old eyes i was very pleased. adjusted the old weaver down a in or so and shot another nice 3 shot 3/4 in group. fairly mild load but id hunt deer with it any day.

SnellstromDon't leave out IMR-4064.
My girlfriends Ruger Ultra Light and my brothers stainless Rem CDL shoot tiny groups with upper end loads in their .257 Roberts and Sierra 100 grain SPBT bullets, pretty good groups too with the Sierra 90 grain HPBT bullets.
My .257 doesn't shoot those 100 grain loads so well, I got stuck on the 117 Sierra's with that rifle and IMR-4350.

Prewar70I get 3000 fps with 35 grains of RL15, 100 gr Partition, out of my 250-3000. 10+ grains less powder and similar performance to the Roberts. Not bad.

rnovi47.0 gr. of H4350, 100gr. SGK. 3100 fps.
In the end, I do prefer the 44.0 of H4350 and a 117 SGK at 2,800 fps. But either will work fine.
Regards,
Robert

What he said! You might try pushing it a little, but watch your pressure signs. Check out Hodgdon's latest annual manual. They have a new powder that gets truly incredible velocities out of the BOB, but I have not tried it yet for verification. It may by Hybrid 100-V, but I am not sure off the top of my head.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

24mileboyI have to give another plug for the 46 grains of H 4350. Shoots great in my Ruger.
