Who makes a factory rifle in 221 fireball?
20 December 2008, 05:10
df06Remington made their classic one year, believe 2002. If you are interested in a used one of those, I saw one in the Gun Stop last weekend, phone 952 474 4570.
And I think they may still chamber their light varmint rifle in that cartridge. I know they did at one time.
I have a Sako A1 reberreled to a .221 FB. It is not for sale.

DocEdRemington made their LVSF rifle for a while. They also make a laminated stock, blue model.
I have one of the LVSF rifles and it shoots very well.

muckYes Cooper did donate to Obama's campaign.
It cost him his JOB. He was asked to step down from his position at Cooper.

eurocentricHe's still there they (He had the idea) just to remove the title. He's involved in day-to-day Ops.
Get the Rem 221 FB classic if you can, its a shooter and nicely made, great wood.
Extremely accurate. I had its trigger set to 2 lbs and installed a Millett 4x16 Scope
Using Sierra 50 gr Blitzking ( I Hunt) I have averaged from .097 to .327 from the bench.

Cooper should have thought long and hard about all the angles on what he was doing.
That company will never get a dime of my money- and the "firing", "stepping down", whatever you want to call it is all symbolic BS, too.
Buy a 527 or a 700 and screw Dan Cooper.

GeedubyaI originally purchased the 700 classic in 221 fireball. Later sold it and got the 700 in LVSF
Its a great walking varminter. Dust, rough country nor inclimate weather faze it. I generally call in predators and it works great on varmints at the ranges I shoot.

seafire2ya know GW,
I usually am not impressed by groups on a target.. the same as with your posting above...
now the pic with the rifle and the dead fox.., that is what says it all....that is where the rifle is really putting its money where its mouth is, so to speak...great picture!

GeedubyaSeafire,
I can relate. I used to be much more anal about trying to get one hole groups out of factory rifles. I shoot four different 17 caliber chamberings, one 20 caliber, 7 different 22 calibers, 3 6 mm's, 3 6.5 mm's 2 .277 chamberings, 6 7mm's.... etc. I no longer worry about one hole groups as I am a hunter rather than a paper puncher. If you take notice, my scope of choice is a vx3 2.5 x 8. Not exactly the scope I would choose if bughole groups were my primary focus. I could have posted five or six more targets with similar groups using different powders and the same choice of bullet. One inch groups out of a factory rifle will do any thing I need. I know both my limitiations and that of my rifle. I'd much rather have a rifle that will shoot one and one half inch groups at 100 yds, with a trigger that breaks like glass at two pounds than a one holer with a iffy trigger (if there is such a thing). I happen to like the 221 fireball. I don't shoot prarie dogs at 500 yds. I own swifts and 22-250's but they do to much damage to pelts.
In fact, I'm thinking about having a 20 vartarg (20-221 fireball) on a S-491 action that I have sitting here smithed with a medium contour 22 in barrel. Should make a heck of a walking varminter.

seafire2Yeah, I enjoy varmint shooting much more than deer or elk hunting even..
I also love handloading and experimenting and seeing what I can make work right...
the little 17 and 20 caliber stuff is pretty fun to play with at the reload bench...and seing what makes it work best....
at the same time.. draggin home a fox like that, or a coyote or to spend the day out blowing up sage rats... its all pretty addicting fun...
there is a whole slew of calibers I'd love to work with right now...all 22 cal or smaller...
17, 19 and 20 calibers...
