ledvm45g TSX in plain ole .22 Hornet
I want to load some 45 gr TSX in a plain Hornet. It is a Browning Lo-wall. I want it for my son to shoot hogs at about 40-50 yds.
Anyone got a load???

k-22hornetUse a max charge of Lilgun, ignite it with a small pistol primer, and go shoot something.
I use the 45gr XLC out of my Hornet for coyotes, using 13.0grs Lilgun. Velocity is right at 2,900fps and is MOA. Works very well on coyotes, should be good on hogs.

LWDLil'gun works great in my Hornet. You can't get enough Lil'gun in a Hornet to have a pressure problem with a 45 grain bullet. The 45 grain is a better choice than the 53 since a lot of Hornets won't have the twist to stabilize it.

ledvmBack in the day Seafire...I know a fellow

...that shot a "pick-up load" of deer one evening (again

) with an old Savage Hornet and just plain old Remington 45g soft-points.

But even the 45 in the TSX is longer than a standard 45gr. cup-and-core Hornet bullet isn't it???

akplsAlmost any 45 grain bullet out of any of my Hornet rifles is very accurate. I run into problems with them fitting the magazine. I solved it for the CZ with the single shot adapter from Calhoon, but I still have the length issue with other Hornet rifles.

Hey Bud,
Just color me cheap.
Don't worry, I've done alot of things just because "I want to", also.
From my way of thinking a .22 Hornet does just fine with standard Cup & Core (or cast) bullet-oes at it's optimum velocity @ 2500 fps.
Save the Barnes for a +.308" caliber cartridge.
Cheers,

Looking for a little deeper penetration on some fairly thick hogs with less bullet fragmentation.

Not a problem in a Lo-Wall.

Yes, it probably is, but it was designed for slow twist .22s that wouldn't stabilize the 53 grain. Mostly 1:14" .22-250s since most .223s have a 1:12" or faster twist rate. You'll obviously have to try it in yours but if you've got a 1:14" or faster twist you've got a good chance of it working.
