brytstar6.5/300WSM
Has any one tried this yet. I think it would be hotter than the 6.5/284 or the 6.5/06.

sccm1I have to friends who have 300 wsm, one a browning, other a winchester, I have shot both a few times with factory ammo and both shoot good, noise and kick about like a 30:06

prof242I've mentioned this before, both I and my hunting buddy have mirror-imaged (his is right-handed, mine a lefty), with barrels (yep 2 each) in 6.5/.300WSM and .338/.300WSM. Both shoot extremely well. My 6.5WSM kicks less than a .30-06 that I shoot. Accuracy is phenomenal (that's because of the gunsmith) and velocity is definitly more than the other two cartridges you mentioned. Still, the velocity is a little lower than the .264Win. I love mine as does my buddy.

30 Caliber Mag Fanbrytstar-
I will echo what Prof242 says. 6.5 X 300 WSM is a great cartridge. Recoil definitely less than an '06 and so accurate that it is spooky.
I'll definitely go out on the limb here; I think it the best of all of the short magnums.

BohicaDitto for the 6.5-SAUM! Virtually the same as a 264 Win Mag with a 3" shorter barrel and less recoil. Accuracy? As you say!!! Spooky! Nice for a 6lb rifle.

Fish30114What do you guys do to form up your brass for this cartridge? Does anyone make it with the appropriate headstamp.
Thanks--Don

NZVarminterjust for your reference, case capacities as follows:
Volume is g of water to base of neck
7mm-07 50.2 (short action)
284 59.8 (short action, just)
7mm SAUM 67.3 (easily short action)
7mm WSM 72.8 (short action, just)
7mm Rem Mag 77.3 (long action)
The general consensus is that the 6.5*284 is pretty hard on barrels (throat erosion), so a 6.5 wsm would be quite a bit worse with an extra 12 grains of capacity.
Also the 6.5 bullets are longer than 7mm so you will probably have to seat them into the case with the WSM loosing some capacity.
The SAUM is a much better case for a short action.
see comparison below
cheers

prof242Our gunsmith lengthened our magazines to 3.1" so that our cartridge OAL is 3.0" with no problem. However, we've had some fantastic accuracy and velocities with 2.8" OAL.
