Dog-duster.223AI loads with 748 and varget?
I have just stared trying to work on a load for my .223AI and I have found the limits that I'm comfortable with using H335 so I'm looking ar trying some loads with 748 (next favorite powder to 335) and giving Varget a second chance too. Planning to use 40-50 Gr V-maxes and Blitzkings and hoping I can lower my pressures and retain velocity. I am also kicking around the idea of trying H380, BL(C)2, AA2230, and AA2460. Any input would be helpful.

stronicsI've had good luck with H4895 and the 50 VMax.

StonecreekI would doubt that the .223 AI has enough more case capacity that the standard .223 to make some powder other than H-335 a better choice, but you never know until you try. As an example, I have a virtually identical 222, 223, and .222 Magnum, and all of them seem to do as well or better with H-335 as with anything.
BL-C2, WW 748, and WC 846 are all the same spec powder (but may vary significantly from lot to lot). Although I regard this powder as slower than H-335 (also WC 844), some relative rate charts show it faster. The one thing that can be said for sure is that the burning characteristics of 748/846 make it noticeably slower in larger cases (i.e. .308) when compared to 335/844. According to most data, 748/846 won't perform much differently from 335/844 in a .223-size case. As I say, only trying it in your gun will tell for sure. But with the relatively light bullets you are using, H-335 may be the best game in town.
