howa actions
I am looking into building a 22-250. Has anyone used any howa actions. I was wondering how well they are made, and of course how well they function. If anyone has any info on them I would like to here it, or if you have a preference of another action. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

They are good actions, but the overwhelming variety of after-market options made for Remington 700 actions probably makes them a better and cheaper in the long run choice. Howa 1500 actions can be found on rifles sold by Weatherby and, in the past, by Mossberg and S&W.

I've been fondeling them lately and like them a lot. IMO they're a fine action worthy of one's hard earned cash.

It's available in a .22-250 barreled action too and they shoot extremely well. Barreled actions are far less costly than having an aftermarket barrel added to your action and the darn things shoot very well.

I have a heavy barrel .223 Howa. It shoots pretty good and for the price, I'd buy another. I've thought about buying one of the 243's. The trigger came from the factory set at 3lbs.

I like the way they look, the fit and finish. Just wish they came in left hand... I am 51, and the world is STILL against me!!! bawling

they seem to be well made for a production item. i like them but after market parts are limited. if you have a smith in mind to do the rebarrel as you said you want to build one ask him if his lathe can cut metric threads, the action is threaded with them.

There is a guy at the range where I shoot,
Has a couple of them. 1 is a .223 and the other a 22 250. They are I think howa rifles loack stock and barrel. They shoot real well, interesting Boyds thumbhole stock with vents along the barrel channel...tj3006

You certainly can make a fine rifle out of the Howa. A buddy built a .221 Fireball with a sweet Pac Nor custom barrel on one, and it's the finest shooting rifle, short of a full benchrest rig, that I have ever seen. The only flaw I can think of, was the trigger, Timney makes a replacement, but only whenever they feel like making a batch, they are hard to find. If you can find a Timney, get one before you get the rifle, to make sure you can get your mitts on it.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I am still not sure exactly what I will put together, but I might just give the howa a try.
