Heavy bullets small calibers
Hi Folks.

What ever happened to the ol`classic calibers like the .228 Ackley magnum, .22Newton .226Barnes quicktwist etc?.
Is there anyone here on the forum that shoots these calibers?

I would like to make up a customrifle in one of these calibers..Who can customswage like 90-115 grain bullets in .228cal?.

J

The only place I found that even had any .228 bullets was huntington. They only offer 60 and 70 gr., and I don't know who the manufacturer is.

So, since Barnes stopped making the bullets, I figured that these wild cats have fallen out of favor.

Ackley admits that using the .228 with 70 gr, it was over bore for its capacity thus barrel life is short.

Myself I had a 6mm Arnold (7mm remington mag case necked down to 6mm). With a 70 gr BT nosler bullet it came out at an honest 4200 fps. It would total destroy a coyote, if you didn't hit it in the rib cage.

The barrel lasted exactly 250 rds before it was shot out.

Here is what I have found on the open market. Enter .228 Cal http://www.shootforum.com/forum/bulletdb.html An thing else will be custom made by someone that has forming dies and the cost will more likey be higher than a hunchbacks rear end.
