Paul H223 ackley
Is anyone here shooting a 223 ackley?
I'm gathering up parts to build what will fall somewhere between a sporter and varmint gun, I guess you could call it a medium varminter. The donor action is a rem 700 LV SF 221 fireball, the stock will be a McMillan A5 tactical, and the barrel a Pac Nor #5 sporter with 1-8" twist for the heavier match bullets.
I figure I'll mostly be shooting Hornady 55gr V-max, 75 gr A-max and barnes 62gr tsx for blacktails.

KetchikanIt's a hummer with 75's. Mine is twisted 1-8" and hell on deer, but most things are.

Paul HOh I'm well aware of that thread

It actually is a good discussion of what matters concerning killing big game.
But asside from that, I guess what I'm really asking is if anyone here shoots one, and what your favorite loads are.

788Mine is a 14 twist, so I can only use bulets up to 53 grs. I get good results with H322, H335, H4895 behind berger 52's, Sierra 40's, and Sierra 53's.
My favorite load is
53 gr Sierra hpmatch
Rem 7 1/2
WW case
25.0 grs H322
1/4-1/2" groups.

KetchikanYes I shoot one with a 1-8" twist and a 21" barrel. Have yet to play with anything under 64grains but will eventually.
64-75 respond well to H-335 and RL-15, 75's behind 25grains of H-335 are doing 2950 with room to grow.
